I think they mean that “weed” is not strong enough of a word to describe it.

I remember reading an article about how unkillable and fast growing kudzu vines were as a kid, but that was in the 90s and the US is still there

Ugh I have a bad allergic reaction to pokeweed. One IS too much. Yet I have to weed it anyway and nearly die in the process.
