Beardsley@lemmy.world on 14 Mar 19:52 next collapse

Okay but we’re tacking on cousin Becky’s birthday because it was three weeks ago and that side of thr family is real poor.

breadguy@lemm.ee on 14 Mar 20:01 collapse

for sure no problem

Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works on 14 Mar 22:21 next collapse

Sure just post a link to your astrophysics accomplishments.

Krauerking@lemy.lol on 15 Mar 00:49 collapse

Hey also share a birthday. Hope you managed to get cake instead of Pie. Lord knows I’m tired of it.

Real heads know 22 July is the more accurate Pi day.

22/7 = 3.1428

HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club on 14 Mar 20:30 next collapse

What’s the 22nd month of the year?

deranger@sh.itjust.works on 14 Mar 20:59 collapse

Despite living in the US my whole life, I don’t subscribe to the insane mm/dd/yy ordering, it’s the most ass backwards shit. That’s why I wrote 22 July. Not sure how you got 22nd month out of that when it’s unambiguous.

HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club on 14 Mar 21:02 next collapse

It was a joke.

Data Analyst background here. I prefer 20250722

callyral@pawb.social on 14 Mar 23:09 collapse

digital artist here. i prefer 2025-07-22 for file sorting and it is easier to read

That is the mandate for all date structures that I can control.

Technical drafter here,. Agree with you, ISO 8601 is the only right way

On this day 20250315, after many years of searching, I have finally found my people. The logical ones.

Kayday@lemmy.world on 14 Mar 23:38 next collapse

Hello! I don’t intend to convince anyone one way is better than another, but I wanted to share why I like the mm/dd/yy format.

Simple reason, the number of possible integers increases as you go left to right.
12/31/9999

That’s all, got it out of my system. Thank you for reading.

Ziglin@lemmy.world on 15 Mar 20:29 collapse

That is pretty nice but it does not justify the inconvenience. Glad to have heard it :)

dream_weasel@sh.itjust.works on 15 Mar 16:20 next collapse

That part was unambiguous, and the month comment was clearly a joke; however, the very next line you write “22/7”. While you meant division, you accidentally wrote common date separator format, which WAS ambiguous and opened the door for the joke.

You could have written 22 ➗ 7 to get the effect you were aiming for ;).

Trollception@sh.itjust.works on 16 Mar 20:26 collapse

The heck? So are you like a rebel without a cause in the office then?

deranger@sh.itjust.works on 16 Mar 21:44 collapse

I write all my dates in military format i.e. dd MMM yyyy, so 16 MAR 2025 for today. Zero ambiguity. I also use 24H time from being in the military and living in Italy for a couple years.

callyral@pawb.social on 14 Mar 23:10 next collapse

i was born on that day

bhamlin@lemmy.world on 14 Mar 23:09 next collapse

Sorry, I prefer tau day.

lugal@sopuli.xyz on 15 Mar 00:24 collapse

The problem about τ is that while, sure, you often have 2π but more often than not you have just π which would be τ/2 and doubling is so much easier than halving that it makes up for it

bhamlin@lemmy.world on 15 Mar 02:06 collapse

I didn’t say tau over pi, I said tau day. It’s my birthday. 😋

lugal@sopuli.xyz on 15 Mar 12:18 next collapse

If that is true, than Einstein is the reincarnation of Hawking

Krauerking@lemy.lol on 15 Mar 00:31 next collapse

Its also the birthday and death day of Akira Yoshizawa, the grandmaster of Origami who rose the craft to an art form.

Also if you manage to die on the day of your birth by natural causes at 94 I think you deserve extra credit.

The art is honored for his incredible work standardizing it, he really was a treasure

Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io on 15 Mar 14:50 next collapse

We had pizza, apple pie and cherry almond pie for Pi Day! And also rode bicycles and celebrated circles, arc, curves, and spirals!

madjo@feddit.nl on 15 Mar 22:40 collapse

No it’s not, 22/7 is more accurate than 3/14 for Pi. So 22th of July is best pi day.
