@startrek@startrek.website Help with Klingon

Are there any experts in Klingon around? I would love to get a translation of the chant heard at Minnesota Wild hockey games (many teams use similar chants) “Let’s go Wild”. Basically meaning “Go team!” or “Victory for the Minnesota Wild!”). Any ideas would be fantastic.

It was suggested that I ask KlingonPop for help and I realized that the replies wouldn't show up on Lemmy because I didn't tag it correctly. Still figuring out the fediverse stuff!

While I am by no means an expert, I can certainly offer a suggestion.

The original chant is, of course, a pun: 'Let's go Wild' having the double meaning of 'Let's become wild' and 'May the team called "Wild" win'. To retain some of that same pun, you could use {petlhay'Ha'choH} which means 'Become un-tame!' - pronounced roughly like 'peh-KLAY-hhhah-chohhh', with the 'hhh's being a very harsh 'H' sound.

You could also drop the {-choH} to give just {petlhay'Ha'} - 'Be un-tame!' (rather than 'Become'). Rough pronunciation: 'peh-KLAY-hhha'.

There are much more expert Klingonists to be found at the Klingon Language Institute (www.kli.org) who may be able to help further. Not sure if the KLI has a primary fediverse presence, though.
