Does this mean it’s not showing in theaters on release, only on Paramount+? That’s a strange decision. I assume they’re hoping new people will sign up for Paramount+ to see it, but showing it in theaters could get a lot of new people interested in star trek who then might be motivated to sign up and check out the shows.
Also I was looking forward to seeing it on the big screen. Oh well.

Yeah, this one has always been slated as a Paramount+ exclusive.

I just watched a fascinating documentary on Star Trek and they talked about how paramount kept trying to launch their own network on the back of Star Trek as it’s cash cow and how they kept failing because it was all they had on it and not enough viewers.
Problem solved by making all the different kinds of shows into Star Trek, I guess, but how are they going to grow a fan base if it’s all locked behind a paywall that only people who already love it will pay to get through?

You’re talking about the old UPN network?

And now Paramount+. Even now their strategy seems to be to fill it with Star Trek and wait for the cash to roll in.

I was kind of hoping that after 2023, she would decide to not do this. I think Michelle Yeoh is fantastic, generational actress; but I’m highly skeptical of recent Star Trek works. She is by far the biggest name to return to the franchise.
Hopefully, they have an excellent story to match.

You wanted her to not take a job cause some star trek fans didn’t want this?

No, I didn’t want a dark Section 31 series based on the Discovery/Picard “Dark Trek” writing style.
Michelle Yeoh winning the Oscar was an easy cop out. Now she’s in another league in terms of salary, and Paramount can’t afford to pay her for a streaming series. Both sides go their separate ways and the idea is dropped.
Fortunately for us, she loves the character and wanted to do at least one final act. So I guess the compromise is the movie instead of the series.
And that is cause for optimism because it likely means the script was good enough to draw her back, and concise enough that the Section 31 thing won’t be dragged out.
Hey, we’re finally getting a new Trek movie, and it has a big name actress behind it.

She played Georgiou across three seasons of Star Trek; what would be her motivation to stop in 2023?

Nice, been waiting for this as I abandoned Discovery once her story was over. I view it as a TV movie or basically a long double episode.

I think I may have just jizzed in my pants
You know, modern medicine has made great strides when it comes to issues like this.
Modern problems requires modern solutions
No.
Bring back my hopeful vision of the future Star Trek, I’m all done with this new wave.
Did you even watch the movie? I swear half the people on here are bots.
Did I even watch the movie which hasn’t come out yet? I’m pretty sure I know which of us is a bot.
So don’t watch it. And you think strange new worlds is bad??
