Lower Decks is my favorite.

easydnesto@sh.itjust.works on 18 Nov 2023 22:50 collapse

I had low expectations when it was first announced, but now it’s the only series I actually look forward to

When I knew it was Mike McMahan who ran the TNG S8 Twitter account, I had total faith. He’s a true fan, he wrote the show with reverence for the material despite it being jocular in tone, which is impressive and what made me fall in love with the show.

It looked like some Rick and Morty inspired cash grab from Paramount+ to fill out their streaming line up, so it was immediately passed over by me and some friends. When it got a 3rd season I realized it was probably going to last and started watching it when I can.

I wanted to get Paramount+ for it but their other Trek stuff is hot garbage for this TNG fan and it feels like paying for just one show would encourage them to continue fucking up Trek like they have. At least I have good friends who don’t mind subsidizing Rick Berman’s flavor of boomer space action.

The ONLY reason we have Paramount+ is because my wife wanted to watch some soaps on it (IDK even which ones, I couldn’t be less interested). But I WAS like “Now I can watch Lower Decks! Sweet.”

I stopped caring when Amazon Prime required you to buy Disney+ to watch THEIR FUCKING ORIGINAL

PlasmaDistortion@lemm.ee on 18 Nov 2023 23:17 next collapse

Hoist the sails my friend.

Mongostein@lemmy.ca on 18 Nov 2023 23:41 next collapse

You mean paramount +?

shiveyarbles@beehaw.org on 19 Nov 2023 01:00 next collapse

But everyone already subscribed to Paramount+ for the champions League… right?

Mongostein@lemmy.ca on 19 Nov 2023 09:01 collapse

Yes? 🤷🏻‍♂️

bleistift2@feddit.de on 19 Nov 2023 01:24 collapse

Yes, I do. Man, what’s with the damn pluses everywhere?

Mongostein@lemmy.ca on 19 Nov 2023 08:59 collapse

While I agree with you, it is on Paramount+, not Amazon. While you can subscribe through Amazon, it’s also it’s own streaming service.

bleistift2@feddit.de on 19 Nov 2023 14:40 collapse

it is on Paramount+, not Amazon.

That’s my grievance. It’s an Amazon Original (at least it used to be). Why is Paramount streaming it instead of Amazon?

@USSBurritoTruck I love this show!!!

IonAddis@lemmy.world on 19 Nov 2023 01:19 next collapse

I’ve never been a huge fan of “adult animation”, or really animation in general. So I had to get over that hill of bias. But once I did, I found I enjoyed this show. Those Old Scientists on Strange New Worlds is actually what made me go back and give Lower Decks a second try.

Anyway, I’m excited to see where season 5 goes. I also kinda want another live-action crossover.

triktrek@startrek.website on 19 Nov 2023 11:56 next collapse

I would love for them to do a cross over show again but Roger Rabbit style.

acockworkorange@mander.xyz on 19 Nov 2023 12:44 collapse

This show, like most trek, really found it’s footing after one or two seasons. The characters have depth and personality and don’t just exist for sake of the jokes.

I still struggle with some of the crass humor, but that’s because I’m rather particular about what I find funny. The last season was particularly good on character building and they did set it up for a very exciting new season indeed.

sanzky@beehaw.org on 19 Nov 2023 08:32 next collapse

the character have so good chemistry together it is curious to think they just each record their stuff separately

triktrek@startrek.website on 19 Nov 2023 12:06 collapse

I honestly think that Lower Decks has the potential to be the longest running Star Trek show.

I assume they are cheaper to produce than the live action shows so less risk for the executives but still decent return on investment.

USSBurritoTruck@startrek.website on 20 Nov 2023 05:18 collapse

I certainly wouldn’t complain if we got LDecks for years to come.
