This show was honestly such a special gem. šŸ’œšŸ’œšŸ’œ

Iā€™m going to miss all the cleverness, great writing, and loads of fun. I wish I could be friends with all the characters. Boimler and Marinerā€™s relationship is so wonderful. I want IRL friends like all of them. šŸ™ƒ

So long Lower Deck.

Engage the core.

Buffertime episode was the one where I became hooked.

The show consistently delivered until the very end, at least for me.

My only petty gripe is when I recently rewatched an episode: Riker comments about seeing Archer and the gang in the holodeck and now that Iā€™ve seen ENTā€¦I donā€™t want to be reminded of the finale. I told you it was petty!

5 seasons and a movie, make it so!

GlassHalfHopeful@lemmy.ca on 15 Feb 00:54 next collapse

Ooh! I didnā€™t hear about a possible movie. Is it a sure thing?

MalikMuaddibSoong@startrek.website on 15 Feb 02:04 collapse

I have no idea, but I hope so haha

NakariLexfortaine@lemm.ee on 15 Feb 14:05 next collapse

2 movies.

Lower Decks earned itā€™s place in the One Good, One Bad cycle(at least a tongue-in-cheek poke at it).

A fun, animated Star Trek movie, full of fun and team spirit and community might hit just right in July 2026

Itā€™s my favorite Trek since DS9. I need to re watch it. I was annoyed by Mariner and Boimler during the first episodes. But they had fantastic character development that made the first episodes necessary.

GlassHalfHopeful@lemmy.ca on 15 Feb 01:02 next collapse

I have serious love-hate for her.

match@pawb.social on 15 Feb 22:31 collapse

Lower Decks for sure has the most DS9 energy of anything that isnā€™t DS9. They even gay married Garak and Bashir!

This is the mark of a truly great show

Indeed. šŸ’œ

Man what are the odds??? I just finished the last episode today too! Iā€™ve been dragging along on this last season because, ya know, last season and all, but it did certainly end with quite a bang.

GlassHalfHopeful@lemmy.ca on 15 Feb 05:00 next collapse

Same. I didnā€™t want to rush it. Savor it, you know.

It left me with the good feels.

I just did earlier this week!!

great show, a classic for sure. I think all the scripts were written in all caps tho.

Ha! Because of all the cartoon energy? šŸ˜

So perfect.

Corgana@startrek.website on 15 Feb 15:15 next collapse

I did too! Watched it on initial release but skipped the finale, then watched a second time with the finale. Like a lot of Trek it is even better the second time, there is a shocking amount of attention to detail for a silly cartoon.

My favorite aspect that LDS really nailed was that it regularly turned a Trek trope on itā€™s head, and the ā€œtwistā€ in so many episodes turned out to be a positive well-intentioned misunderstanding instead of an ulterior motive.

observantTrapezium@lemmy.ca on 15 Feb 16:46 next collapse

It was absolutely the best of New Trek!

GlassHalfHopeful@lemmy.ca on 15 Feb 16:50 collapse

So what do people classify as New Trek. Post Archerā€™s Enterprise?

observantTrapezium@lemmy.ca on 15 Feb 19:56 collapse

Yep, I think thatā€™s how itā€™s commonly understood.

GlassHalfHopeful@lemmy.ca on 15 Feb 20:24 collapse

It certainly has its differences. Iā€™ve really enjoyed SNW. Discovery had a lot of good, but plenty to counter balance it. Iā€™m glad they wrapped it up because it really really needed to.

Nowā€¦ this Section 31 movie? I watched the trailer. Andā€¦ as much as I hate to say this because of how much I love Star Trekā€¦ I think Iā€™m going to skip that one. Normally I watch everything out of devotion. Yep, that means watching some pretty bad stuff. I just donā€™t know if this movie has any redeeming qualities though.

I love Yeoh, but I really donā€™t like the Georgiou character much. And this movie takes place in the part of the Discovery timeline that I just didnā€™t dig so much.

I donā€™t know. Maybe.

Iā€™d hate for there to be some Star Trek I didnā€™t watch .

observantTrapezium@lemmy.ca on 15 Feb 21:19 collapse

I watch 929 episodes (out of 930 to date), the 10 shorts, and the 14 movies. Out of devotion. Section 31 was indeed awful, what can I say. But itā€™s only 90 minutes and you lose nothing if you multitask while watching.

IMO Lower Decks and Prodigy, the two animated shows, were the best by far of New Trek. Strange New Worlds is quite OK (and I have a soft spot for it since the Toronto episode). I hope it continues on the right path.

ValueSubtracted@startrek.website on 15 Feb 21:32 next collapse

I was able to find a couple of things I found interesting about Section 31, but I had to dig pretty deep to do it.

GlassHalfHopeful@lemmy.ca on 16 Feb 02:10 collapse

@observantTrapezium@lemmy.ca @ValueSubtracted@startrek.website yes. devotion. alas, i will probably eventually watch it. even if only as a background show while I am doing something else. i hope it doesnā€™t hurt. šŸ˜¬

prodigy however, i never finished it. i donā€™t know why, but my youngest didnā€™t dig it and then it went through the re-homing. i just sorta forgot about it. i think itā€™s time i give it a second go. iā€™ll force him to watch it because all kids should be properly indoctrinated with trek. ;-)

observantTrapezium@lemmy.ca on 16 Feb 05:55 collapse

I think Prodigy really improved in the second half of the first season and more so in the second season. I thoroughly enjoyed it as an adult watching by myself, no shame in that šŸ˜

Feathercrown@lemmy.world on 16 Feb 04:53 collapse

Dare I ask what the 930th episode is?

observantTrapezium@lemmy.ca on 16 Feb 05:56 collapse

Sure, itā€™s SNW S02E09 (ā€œSubspace Rhapsodyā€). I watched the teaser and decided to skip that one. I read the synopsis before watching the season finale.

tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip on 15 Feb 20:37 next collapse

Wasnā€™t this the highest rated nu trek? Smart move by paramount to kill something so popular.

We demand 7 seasons!

GlassHalfHopeful@lemmy.ca on 15 Feb 20:55 next collapse

I will never begin to understand how and why execs make the decisions they do.

No idea if it was most popular, but i wouldnā€™t have thought so. The humor seemed directed mostly towards existing fans. I cant imagine they brought in many new viewers. Iā€™d love to be surprised though.

usernamefactory@lemmy.ca on 15 Feb 21:08 next collapse

Yeah, I hate to say it, but it makes sense from a bean-counterā€™s perspective. Lower Decks seemed to mostly target hardcore fans, and hardcore fans will already be subscribing to watch SNW. If its not gaining them any extra subscriptions, they donā€™t care about it.

Section 31 and Academy are both trying to court people outside of the existing fandoms. Certainly not very successfully in the case of Section 31, but the reasoning at play is pretty clear.

GlassHalfHopeful@lemmy.ca on 16 Feb 03:19 collapse

I know nothing of Academy, but I understand itā€™s in the Discovery future. I kind of wish that arc brought them back to their time. That future is rough andā€¦ can scifi be too futuristic? Anyway, not sure if I will dig the Academy of that time, but canā€™t knock it until I try it.

I kind of want to meet the new demographic that is into the latest Star Trek. As in, thatā€™s all they know and what they like best. Iā€™m not sure that demographic is even formed yet, but Iā€™m kind of curious how different they would be from the old Trek folks. What is it about the new track that they like versus the old.

usernamefactory@lemmy.ca on 16 Feb 04:22 collapse

Iā€™m old enough to remember the premiere of DS9, but I did appreciate Discoveryā€™s move to the future. I liked the political aspects of the rebuilding of the Federation. I have always been a little bugged by how Earth centric Trek tends to be, so I especially appreciated the fact that Earth had seceded by the start of season 3. Not sure how much I can expect Academy to pick up on any of that, though.

Feathercrown@lemmy.world on 16 Feb 04:50 collapse

Iā€™m a counterexample here, although thatā€™s only an anecdote. Lower Decks was the first Star Trek show Iā€™ve ever watched. Granted I was able to get some of the meta humor through cultural osmosis and hanging around other nerds, which was nice and may have helped.

GlassHalfHopeful@lemmy.ca on 16 Feb 05:37 collapse

Of the live action, what have you enjoyed the most?

Feathercrown@lemmy.world on 16 Feb 06:07 collapse

Havenā€™t watched any yet, but Iā€™ve heard good things about DS9.

GlassHalfHopeful@lemmy.ca on 16 Feb 06:31 collapse

Itā€™s my favorite of them which Iā€™ve rewatched though more than once. A tad dated, so I wonder if newly introduced folks would like it.

ValueSubtracted@startrek.website on 15 Feb 21:29 next collapse

I donā€™t think thereā€™s any question that it was well-liked by the fandom.

However, I used to check in with Parrot Analytics fairly frequently - theyā€™re a site that purports to measure the overall ā€œdemandā€ of a series through a variety of means that I donā€™t fully understandā€¦but the industry uses their metrics.

ā€œLower Decksā€ was typically the second-lowest ā€œin demandā€ new series - only ā€œProdigyā€ had a lower score.

That said, the demand for all of the new series was categorized as ā€œoutstanding.ā€

drwho@hackers.town on 16 Feb 06:53 collapse

@tigeruppercut @GlassHalfHopeful They said they were only giving it five, and they kept their word.
