Got a Playmates TOS Tricorder off eBay.

This box and toy itself are showing its age. The view screen is hard to rotate, the battery compartment has erosion (but no batteries), the strap is very short. I wanted this all for the looks (cosplay), till the day I might be able to purchase The Wand Company’s Tricorder (probably never at this point; 😕).

My parents bought this for me when it was new, as well as the phaser and communicator! The strap was the perfect length for me at that age…

I loved the little blueprint sheet that came with them.

This is why the strap was your length: age 4 and up.

Looked it up - 1995. I’d have been all of eleven at the time.

Apart from the scale, I remember it as being pretty screen accurate. I think the first Starship Exeter fan film used these, with a little modification.

Very nice.

I have one of the TNG versions, and I am partway through refitting it work lights and electronics. I may even finish, someday.

Is it the TR-80 or the Medical (did Playmates even make a Medical version)? I have the regular one.

They did make a medical, in very limited numbers, but I’m using the TNG Science/Engineering tricorder.

Playmates role play toys were the best. The tng tricorder toy was my pride and joy as a kid. So good!
