Is there a way to watch DS9 whole skipping the prophet & pah wraith plotline

Yesterday I applied myself on a later season with a clip involving the prophets and pah wraiths

So far I’ve been watching through season 1 as this is my first watch of DS9

I’ve come to realise that I don’t like the entire prophet and pah wraith plotline because it feels like this overarching plot that takes away from everything else DS9 is and it ruined the show for me

I’d like to try continue watching but by skipping over the whole prophet & pah wraith plotline

Is it possible, is there some sort of guide out there to skip the prophet / pah wraith plotline ?

No, it’s integral to the show and most of the characters and only becomes more important as the show goes on.

I’m sure someone could assemble a list of episodes where the prophets/pah wraiths aren’t important, but it would just be a list of random filler episodes devoid of context.

What the other poster said. Is it possible to skip all those episodes? Probably, if you’re okay with getting dropped into an episode like

“Wait, weren’t they under attack by a huge battlefleet? What happened? How did they survive?”

“Wait, this character is dead? How did that happen??”

You’ll also have to skip the season finale of season 6, the first few episodes of season 7, and most of the last episodes of the series, including the series finale. The story arcs of at least four main characters will be resolved in Prophet / Pah Wraith episodes. The whole Dominion plot line becomes heavily entwined with the Prophets / Pah Wraiths and the major events of the later parts of the series we’ll make zero sense without that context.

tl:dr; power through, don’t do it, it gets better.

The “prophet & pah wraiths” stuff does get better in later seasons, and it plays a major role in the final season.

You’re only on season 1, and first seasons can be rough. But it does get better, it makes more sense, and it’s integral to the DS9 story.

I mean, yeah it’s possible to watch a show and only watch the “MOTW” style episodes that don’t deal with the central overarching plot. I wouldn’t recommend it in DS9 though.

Like any Trek, it takes about 2-2.5 seasons for the show to find itself and reach excellence.

Take the good with the bad, and you’ll get to the amazing parts in short time.

If you do that you miss much of the best Trek villains:

Kai Wynn and Gul Dukat

They are part of reason folks are advising you to hang in there.

But ultimately just enjoy it and skip any episode that is boring you; if you make it halfway you’ll probably want to watch the few relevant ones you skipped.

How I absolutely loathe Kai Winn. Phenomenal job by Louise Fletcher.

And Marc Alaimo is a deliciously layered Gul Dukat cake.

Probably my favorite villians in all of Trek because of the performances.
