Guardian link in case folks don’t want to provide a burner email.

I’ve never used Instagram, so I was spared, but this sounds like hell.

Why was this content even on the platform?

It’s Zuck’s private list.

In reality, it’s effective engagement, they just missed the target audience. Meta has plenty of tools to detect and stop this, it just doesn’t have the will to renounce that sweet advertising money.

This feels like someone took their banned content list and inverted it so that it was suddenly all approved. Regardless, leaving Instagram and Facebook was one of the best decisions I’ve made this year. Can’t and won’t deal with platforms that pump feeds full of ads and fascist hate-filled toxic bullshit.

Reminds me of an anecdote I read a while back about a company that was training an LLM and wanted to make it less "sexy", but a programming error flipped the sign on the weight that was being applied during training. Trainers kept trying to penalize it but that was only encouraging it and the result was an extreme horndog AI.

Unfortunately they found the error and fixed it before ship.

Kinky little AI, indeed.

I can’t wait for 4chan to shriek about Instagram continuing to steal their OC

Man… This was actually the thing that pushed me to delete Twitter a while back, algorithm error was feeding people gore. I never even saw any of it, but the anxiety of trying to avoid it wasn’t worth it.

The way things are going, I predict by 2026 my screen time will be down to zero hours.
