A software update rolling out to Samsung’s Family Hub refrigerators in the US is putting ads on the fridges for the first time. The “promotions and curated advertisements” are coming despite Samsung insisting to The Verge in April that it had “no plans” to do so.

If I want my fridge enshittified I’ll bag up my own poop and put it in the freezer, thankyouverymuch

Didn’t George Carlin have a bit about how all marketing people should just kill themselves?

Here’s how we fix a society that’s already drowning in advertising … more advertising.

Russell Howcroft would think that this was the Duck’s Nuts!

There are so many options for fridges that don’t have any tech in them at all. This is so easy to avoid.

Yeah we were just in the market a year or so ago and I thought this was cool for about a second before I realized what this would be used for. It’s just advertising straight into your kitchen, as you are grabbing food. It’s the perfect place for them to advertise. Any lack of advertisements was always going to be temporary.

Plus honestly what is the actual use for it? Just put a tablet on the counter if you want a screen in there

Shoot, I’m too poor for this. I’ll have to tape up some ads on mine

My in-laws have had an utterly terrible experience with Samsung kitchen appliances.

Not because of tech, mind you, but because they’re shitty and break down. Don’t buy Samsung.
