Normally you’d link the kernel.org mail thread, not a YouTube video.

Care to summarise your beef with Linus in text because I’m not watching that.

Confidant6198@lemmy.ml on 02 Aug 04:20 collapse

So let me get this straight. Instead of watching the 4 minute video that I linked, you want me to summarize it to you just because you rather comment instead of watching the video?

0xtero@beehaw.org on 02 Aug 04:23 next collapse

Yes please, if it’s only 4 minutes you should be able to air your grievances with Linus in text fairly easily and save us all from having to watch some shitty YouTube video

You are accusing him of being a jerk after all.

He has track record of being extremely blunt. This has been the case since the 90s., though he has made attempts to be less direct in the past decade or so. What’s your problem specifically?

Confidant6198@lemmy.ml on 02 Aug 13:23 collapse

Just don’t bother to comment if you are not going to watch the content. That is just peak Reddit behavior . I am not going to do a summary just for you because you don’t want to watch the content posted, to watch a 4 minute video. That is peak entitlement, and I am honestly not interested in what you have to say by this point.

0xtero@beehaw.org on 02 Aug 16:39 collapse

Oh heaven forbid wanting to discuss things in discussion forum instead of watching “content”.

I repeat, what exactly is your problem with Linus? Point me to the kernel.org thread where he is being a jerk to you? Or at least the issue you have in kernel development?

I’m trying to discuss this with you. You keep shouting something about content.

So discuss or get the fuck out.

Brkdncr@lemmy.world on 02 Aug 05:05 next collapse

Yes. I don’t read Lemmy to watch videos.

narr1@lemmy.ml on 02 Aug 07:45 next collapse

are you actually for real, dawg?

pirat@lemmy.ml on 02 Aug 09:29 collapse

I mean anyone who watermarks memes is someone I question the judgement of

locuester@lemmy.zip on 02 Aug 11:44 collapse

Yes. I can read a summary or even a transcription in 10-20 seconds. I’m also not somewhere that I want to blast a video from my device.

I feel the same way about your clickbait content behind videos. Please be mindful that this is a text based site used for discussion and enlightenment. Your ancient clickbait is annoying to me.

I’m not alone. Read the room. See the votes.

You’re not required to acknowledge or reply to my opinion. But I felt compelled to share.

BlueEther@no.lastname.nz on 02 Aug 04:20 next collapse

I don’t think that is news to anyone who has been around a while. He has tried really hard to be less of a jerk than he came across as years and years ago; but he can still be very blunt and to the point

/edit - no I’m not going to bother to watch a video that’s over 10 years old.
/edit 2 - spelling etc

giacomo@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 02 Aug 04:22 next collapse

haha, find someone else to work with.

original_reader@lemmy.zip on 02 Aug 04:30 next collapse

Are we judging people on what they did and said over 10 years ago? If so, then that says more about the one judging than the one judged.

madcaesar@lemmy.world on 02 Aug 22:04 collapse

Depends on what was said.

Imagine the pressure of safeguarding the only true hope of freedom from capitalism. One cannot underestimate the importance of open source. His ego does get in the way because ultimately, everybody is replaceable. But very few could be as militantly focused on the importance of the mission. When you remove money, all the motivators are different. His ability to get results from bullying and public shaming should be studied for how its outcome is different than typical bullying. And he even went to therapy specifically to work on this. Fight another battle.

If anything nvidia proved him right.

I like Linus Torvalds. Yes, sometimes he can be cruel, but that’s because he cares a lot about his projects, and managing open source software means you have to be blunt sometimes.

So you are posting in the technology community that you don’t like Linus Torvalds. This is the wrong community and you are being a real asshole. I’m here for interesting articles and not personal beef. Please keep this to yourself or to a community that allows such posts.
