Until it gets mass adoption, then the enshitification will begin. Bluesky is still funded by a corporation.

joeldebruijn@lemmy.ml on 19 May 16:31 next collapse

Also the article doesnt have any critical question how BlueSky is a “mediated” network instead of decentralised …

comfy@lemmy.ml on 20 May 03:33 collapse

Not merely funded, owned by a for-profit.

It exists for profit. That is its goal and purpose.

gradual@lemmings.world on 22 May 00:04 collapse

That’s why the useful idiots have been herded like sheep into supporting it.

joeldebruijn@lemmy.ml on 19 May 15:58 next collapse

Pay wall free archive.ph/FE9VM

BroBot9000@lemmy.world on 19 May 16:26 next collapse

Another shit private company trying to take over the world. Fuck off

UncleReaton@lemmy.ml on 19 May 18:04 next collapse

I hate how bluesky is seen as a revolution while fediverse devs have been doing shit ton of work for years

alphabethunter@lemmy.world on 19 May 20:28 next collapse

And better work at that

CapriciousDay@lemmy.ml on 19 May 23:52 next collapse

I’m like 95% sure these VC junk apps just pay influencers to join and everyone else follows. I say 95 because I know other platforms have done it, I’ve just not seen the specific smoking gun for BS yet. But that’s probably just because of NDAs.

whereisk@lemmy.world on 21 May 07:56 next collapse

Not quite. It’s just easier to jump in to mechanics you already know, rather than try to reconceptualise the structure and learn to navigate new pitfalls: oh I need to select a server? Which one is the right one? Oh I need a client, which one? Oh I can’t quote retweet? How do I find interesting people to follow? Is this the right handle in the right server or am I following a bot?

gradual@lemmings.world on 22 May 00:03 collapse

I can’t say for certain, but I know what I’d put my money on.

NauticalNoodle@lemmy.ml on 20 May 02:31 next collapse

I hate how bluesky is seen as a revolution…

I’m pretty sure that’s just the establishment liberal media. A real revolution would mean upending their own way of life.

mukt@lemmy.ml on 20 May 03:34 collapse

They paid marketing money.

Zerush@lemmy.ml on 19 May 18:17 next collapse

It was a matter of time until BS (I prefer to use this abbreviation) reveals its true face, tragically after it permits the connection with instances in the Fediverse. It must be blocked immediately from Mastodon and others.

FreeBooteR69@lemmy.ca on 19 May 18:44 next collapse

People leave one shit hole corporate dystopia for another and think things are going to change.

IttihadChe@lemmy.ml on 19 May 23:10 next collapse

Isn’t that the usual state of affairs for westerners?

Zaktor@sopuli.xyz on 20 May 00:55 next collapse

Elon Musk saved them from having to confront that corporatism was the problem with Twitter. They don’t realize the whole “decentralized” slogan is just a startup in the growth phase willing to promise anything and ask for nothing in order to lock people in and if they’re lucky enough to not be bought by another billionaire fascist, they’ll just go to shit like all the others.

Grapho@lemmy.ml on 20 May 01:40 collapse

Nah dude if you stay an early adopter you can hop onto whatever platform is a fuckin desert before they enshittify it the minute it starts getting a community

Cyberflunk@lemmy.world on 19 May 21:07 next collapse

Utterly fuck shitter alt bluesky. Fuck them sideways and down and dead. Fuck them dead.

Master@lemm.ee on 19 May 23:46 next collapse

Would you kill to expound on why?

Me personally… They were already pretty heavy handed with moderation before the masses made the switch and then they got a bit worse.

But it feels like you’ve got something juicier!

psychothumbs@lemmy.world on 20 May 14:00 collapse

This is a psychotic reaction to a new social media site that is better than almost all the existing ones.

Cyberflunk@lemmy.world on 21 May 03:11 next collapse

So?

Rivalarrival@lemmy.today on 21 May 08:17 collapse

Dick cancer is better than almost all the existing ones.

PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de on 19 May 22:35 next collapse

She basically admits that BlueSky is not decentralized. “If you don’t like the moderation, just go build your own app” yeah cool that’s exactly not the point.

Ferk@lemmy.ml on 21 May 08:30 collapse

I mean… isn’t the point of decentralization that you can build your own service with the same protocol and still communicate with the other services?

There are ongoing initiatives for alternative stacks speaking the AT protocol, like Northsky, or Indiesky.

There’s also community-run labelers and blocklists for moderation. You can make the moderation stronger, what you might not be able to do is make it weaker if the PDS takes an account down fully, or the indexer/relay refuses to use it.

PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de on 21 May 17:56 collapse

You’re not wrong but that’s not quite decentralization, that’s just not building a walled garden, but retaining the power to put up walls at any point. If most users are on BlueSky, then BlueSky retains the power. If they decide to end support of AT or to extend (break) it, they keep their user base while everything else is left in the dust.

This is why people are saying not to create an account on mastoson.social - it’s getting too big. And mastodon.social is run by a non-profit, whereas BlueSky is a for-profit company. True decentralization and federation are against their interests.

Manmoth@lemmy.ml on 20 May 00:05 next collapse

CopeSky would be a better name. It will have to close up shop once investors realize it’s not Twitter 2.0.

Zaktor@sopuli.xyz on 20 May 00:50 collapse

Or that it is Twitter 2.0 and Twitter wasn’t a good investment until Musk overpaid for it.

Manmoth@lemmy.ml on 20 May 01:13 collapse

If Twitter lost money for the rest of its existence it would still be a good investment for a billionaire because it provides the power to shape narratives.

oh_@lemmy.world on 20 May 12:36 next collapse

To those saying it isn’t decentralized. Most people don’t care. Bluesky is an easy to use Twitter alternative. People use it over others because of it’s ease of use and popularity. The average user doesn’t care about the how.

Richat@lemmy.ml on 20 May 15:11 next collapse

It’s sad that Bluesky was chosen over Mastodon as the standard Twitter alternative when Mastodon is actually decentralized

gradual@lemmings.world on 22 May 00:02 collapse

It’s sad, but expected.

People who like the twitter-format aren’t that intelligent.

DieserTypMatthias@lemmy.ml on 21 May 07:29 next collapse

It’s a fork of pre-Musk Twitter, so what do you expect?

Zerush@lemmy.ml on 21 May 08:55 next collapse

What about MeWe? Also decentralized

citizenside.com/…/what-is-mewe-and-how-is-it-diff…

gradual@lemmings.world on 22 May 00:02 collapse

Dude, we already have Mastodon.

Holy crap it’s so obvious when someone is having their strings pulled to make someone else richer.

Zerush@lemmy.ml on 22 May 09:51 collapse

Mastodon (Lemmy, Raddle (sometimes)) is what I use, I mentioned MeWe as better alternative to BS, because it exists since many years ago, it is private, doble encryption and decentralized, without scandals and rare things (nowadays). Ad free, it makes money with premium features, like collaboration tools and video chats.

gradual@lemmings.world on 22 May 00:01 collapse

It’s pretty obvious whoever was shilling it is a useful idiot.
