Everything you post online is public, even if services claim its private. Just remember that and try to be anonymous so you blend in with the background noise.

Still, leaving all the responsibility on the user is not a good option. Hosts and developers have a responsibility to protect their users, especially in FOSS and decentralized networks like Mastodon or Lemmy.

Unless it’s end-to-end encrypted. mastodon doesn’t do that.
