you don’t have to post this in 500 communities

mke@lemmy.world on 23 Jul 2024 21:31 collapse

I only found three posts, all in (at least) semi-relevant communities. I think my frontends of choice only show me one, then reference the others below as crossposts.

and?

mke@lemmy.world on 23 Jul 2024 22:52 collapse

I assumed your first comment was a complaint that they were posting in too many communities. I was disagreeing and presenting why I think that assessment would be incorrect, and sneakily trying to hint that you might want to consider a different app/frontend if this was bothering you.

I’m not going to change my front end because somebody thinks that being annoyingly self-promotional is appropriate

mke@lemmy.world on 24 Jul 2024 14:41 collapse

Yeah, you do you. I don’t think posting to three relevant communities is being annoyingly self-promotional, though. Two of them are literally just the same community in two different instances. Why, I find it weird there’s no post to !firefox@lemmy.world

“ratio” or whatever

mke@lemmy.world on 24 Jul 2024 16:11 collapse

what does that even mean

Codilingus@sh.itjust.works on 24 Jul 2024 18:39 collapse

References the ratio of upvotes vs downvotes. People use it as a “look, even this community thinks you’re wrong,” or similar.

Ah, figures, thank you. I still don’t get it, with the counts I’m seeing, but I think we’ve gone deep enough down this comment chain already.

I mean unless you’re arguing that people were downvoting op because the article sucks

Wholeheartedly agree with TFA. People who claim Firefox should go all in and block everything and return no data to advertisers need to explain how Firefox should continue to fund development.
