A little late, eh?

kent_eh@lemmy.ca on 05 May 2024 07:25 collapse

Better late than never.

Verdorrterpunkt@feddit.de on 05 May 2024 09:06 collapse

Eh, it all takes a bit longer here.

TWeaK@lemm.ee on 05 May 2024 07:43 next collapse

So are they going to Mastadon or what?

Icalasari@fedia.io on 05 May 2024 07:56 next collapse

I think it would be better if they made their own instance that worked akin to Mastodon. Then they are always in control of it and people can use whatever Fediverse account to follow

takeda@lemmy.world on 05 May 2024 08:22 next collapse

That’s how I understand Mastodon’s meant to work. You have your instance like you do a mail server, then you have full control over it.

onion@feddit.de on 05 May 2024 08:33 next collapse

So a normal Mastodon instance

Legend@lemmy.sdf.org on 05 May 2024 13:02 collapse

Yeah like what is going on here .

TWeaK@lemm.ee on 05 May 2024 11:14 collapse

I agree, that’s what the BBC did.

ripcord@lemmy.world on 05 May 2024 13:05 collapse

Hmmm, did they? I’m looking and I can’t tell what their legit account is. There’s some account @c.im that has 25k followers but it doesn’t seem like the actual BBC account, just some 3rd-party not (like a dozen others).

Which is the one they set up?

TWeaK@lemm.ee on 05 May 2024 15:55 collapse

I’m pretty sure they did, although I’ve used Mastadon even less than I used Twitter, so I can’t be 100% sure. However I’ve read articles over the months saying they were introducing an instance as a trial, and then that they were keeping it running after the trial.

jan75@lemmy.ml on 05 May 2024 08:26 collapse

Not exactly the same, but the swiss administration have their own mastodon instance: www.swissinfo.ch/eng/business/…/48808086

Link to instance: social.admin.ch/about

TWeaK@lemm.ee on 05 May 2024 11:16 collapse

So ideally these public broadcasters would make communities on the official Swiss instance.

don@lemm.ee on 05 May 2024 08:40 next collapse

I’m a bit surprised the Swiss were on Twitter to begin with.

downdaemon@lemmy.ml on 05 May 2024 09:45 next collapse

This idea is cheesy and full of holes

Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 05 May 2024 11:34 next collapse

They should really switch to Mastodon and host their own instance, just like the German public broadcast service: ard.social

Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 05 May 2024 13:09 next collapse

Btw I just realized that the BBC and NPR are also experimenting with Mastodon, the BBC even has their own instance: social.bbc/about

tallricefarmer@sopuli.xyz on 05 May 2024 16:36 next collapse

looks like npr abandoned that account in 2020

Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 05 May 2024 21:38 collapse

Damn, didn’t realize that. That’s pretty unfortunate.

mesamunefire@lemmy.world on 05 May 2024 17:57 collapse

Looks like it’s being used, that’s cool. social.bbc/public

Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 05 May 2024 22:02 collapse

Didnt even know abou that…
That’s way too progressive.
Especially compared to their YT-channel

They are not even listing it on their website. Neither for ard.de nor tagesschau.de

Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 05 May 2024 22:39 collapse

I never use the YouTube channels to watch their content, I prefer to watch that stuff right from the ARD/ZDF media library using an open-source application called MediathekView (GitHub). There’s also a web version.

dinckelman@lemmy.world on 05 May 2024 11:52 collapse

I deleted my account yesterday, and don’t have any regrets anymore. There’s nothing to be gained there. I don’t want to be somewhere, where neonazis are encouraged to post

ripcord@lemmy.world on 05 May 2024 12:57 collapse

What took so long

dinckelman@lemmy.world on 05 May 2024 13:11 collapse

Haven’t used it in quite a while either way. Only kept it so i can open links
