Honestly not that stupid. I have seen SD cards break. And for certain applications, like professional photography, having a more physically reliable medium is a good thing.

But I think cameras with dual SD cards for redundancy are more important.

This is a great idea at first glance - I’ve certainly had a few usb sticks come apart on removal

I would like for this to be viable, but right now it just seems like it would tear up your slot.

conciselyverbose@sh.itjust.works on 10 Sep 2024 20:15 collapse

How? Your slot is designed to fit them. A damaged card having abnormal dimensions is way more likely to harm your slot than the card that isn’t supposed to bend not bending.

Most of the sd card receptacles I see are made pretty cheaply and that means harder, less pliable materials like steel will make them wear faster.

Hopefully there’s no aluminium in the SD card slot

AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world on 10 Sep 2024 21:19 collapse

Why?

PCurd@feddit.uk on 10 Sep 2024 21:27 next collapse

Aluminium and steel have interesting galvanic reactions when touching each other albanycountyfasteners.com/…/stainless-steel-and-a…

AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world on 10 Sep 2024 21:30 collapse

Thanks! Sounds destructive

PCurd@feddit.uk on 10 Sep 2024 21:32 collapse

Yep, although more for the aluminium than the steel!

sirico@feddit.uk on 10 Sep 2024 21:30 collapse

galvanic corrosion

Why did they call them ‘gold’ and ‘silver pro’?

SteelPro

The only SD card that ever failed on me was a barely used Lexar I bought for my camera. And it was not because it bent or anything.
