q3k :blobcatcoffee: (@q3k@hackerspace.pl) I can finally reveal some research I've been involved with over the past year or so.

We (@redford, @mrtick and I) have reverse engineered the PLC code of NEWAG Impuls EMUs. These trains were locking up for arbitrary reasons after being serviced at third-party workshops. The manufacturer argued that this was because of malpractice by these workshops, and that they should be serviced by them instead of third parties.

holy shit, they went full retard. logic locks to give bogus codes, insane warning messages that could be ignored. gsm fencing so the trains that went to third party repairs would auto throw a code…that’s john deere/nestle levels of toxicity.
Everyone in the chain of command who committed this sabotage should go to prison.
the idiots who engineered the killswitch and didnt whistleblow should get some too
Yes, the people who committed sabotage should be arrested and forced to testify against their superiors who planned and ordered sabotage.
I wonder how prevalent this is in other industries. I would bet Tesla does similar things.
I do hope the company and people involved get what they deserve.
Apple.
John Deere.
Tons of others I’m sure.
The McDonald’s ice cream machines have a similar vibe, but that doesn’t seem to be as smartly/evilly executed as these trains. Remote kill switches are insane.
I’m never buying a train from them again
.
Incredible work guys! Sadly we need heroes like you.
