They’ve needed this for a long time.

actionjbone@sh.itjust.works on 21 Feb 04:54 next collapse

I’m holding out for Premium Lite Pro.

timroerstroem@feddit.dk on 21 Feb 06:08 next collapse

I think that’s called grayjay.

VolumetricShitCompressor@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 21 Feb 07:44 next collapse

Nah, you better wait. I’ve heard that Youtube 2 is almost out.

huquad@lemmy.ml on 21 Feb 11:59 collapse

Now with ads!

WiseWoodchuck@lemmy.world on 21 Feb 05:10 next collapse

I’ve always wondered why Google doesn’t include a YouTube subscription with YouTube TV. They charge enough for it already…

Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone on 21 Feb 07:20 next collapse

Because why make less money when you can make more money

Ulrich@feddit.org on 21 Feb 10:17 next collapse

Because you haven’t approached the situation with the mindset of a careless greedy fuck.

Sturgist@lemmy.ca on 21 Feb 21:34 collapse

Why would the actively make search worse to try and drive engagement time?

muntedcrocodile@lemm.ee on 21 Feb 06:37 next collapse

Is that like PipePipe for idiots?

cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca on 21 Feb 06:39 next collapse

So a way to remove ads at the cost of $ and better tracking. Instead, I’ll stick with piped, greyjay, ublock, etc and make it harder to track me and save the $.

Fuck Google.

sugar_in_your_tea@sh.itjust.works on 21 Feb 12:35 collapse

I have no problem paying, just let me use my app of choice, without ads, and don’t track me. If YouTube did that, I’d be a paying customer instead of a leech. I pay for Nebula and watch on Grayjay, so I do put my money where my mouth is.

Yingwu@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 21 Feb 06:49 next collapse

Didn’t they already have this before but removed it? At least in my country a “lite”-variant was available but they removed it like last year.

LaggyKar@programming.dev on 21 Feb 09:40 next collapse

Still doesn’t allow background playback though, so it’s useless to me

Slaxis@discuss.tchncs.de on 21 Feb 12:58 next collapse

And that’s why I sideload a modified YouTube that includes ad blockers, sponsor segment skipping and background playback, among other things.

overload@sopuli.xyz on 21 Feb 13:26 collapse

I won’t pay for YouTube almost solely because Revanced is such a better experience than YT could be. They cannot bundle in Sponsor block without an outrage.

TheGalacticVoid@lemm.ee on 21 Feb 16:39 collapse

I don’t disagree, but Premium does let you skip over frequently skipped sections.

overload@sopuli.xyz on 21 Feb 22:19 collapse

Oh I didn’t know that. That admittedly changes things somewhat. Google still makes enough money from me though.

AstralPath@lemmy.ca on 21 Feb 14:43 collapse

Try Grayjay. It supports background playback.

frog_brawler@lemmy.world on 21 Feb 10:23 next collapse

Who still uses Google products?!?

JuxtaposedJaguar@lemmy.ml on 21 Feb 13:43 collapse

You

Bali@lemmy.world on 21 Feb 13:07 next collapse

I feel the battle will get harder for extractor like NewPipe. I really hope NewPipe will always work despite Google constantly changing their YouTube code.

sunzu2@thebrainbin.org on 21 Feb 16:41 next collapse

YouTube Music Premium costs $10.99, while YouTube Premium is $13.99. It remains to be seen how much cheaper YouTube Premium Lite

Nice advert... Nice touch to not include the price.

Fucking parasites
