Do you have a few minutes to talk about our Lord and Saviour, Linus Torvalds?

PoopMonster@lemmy.world on 01 Nov 2024 12:27 next collapse

I hesitantly switched a while ago, have had 0 ragrets except that there are some games I can’t play like EA games. But is that really a bad thing though?

Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world on 01 Nov 2024 12:29 next collapse

At this point, games that don’t run on Linux don’t do so because of anti-consumer and anti-privacy practices by the publishers. Those guys can go fuck themselves.

pressanykeynow@lemmy.world on 02 Nov 2024 02:41 collapse

Yeah, it’s literally whether the publisher wants to install malware with their games or not.

GhiLA@sh.itjust.works on 01 Nov 2024 16:19 collapse

Not really, considering indie gaming is now its own landscape and has basically nothing to do with AAA which is slowly dying in its own piss.

Everyone will go “gaming is dead” for the next few years while indie game slammer after slammer hits the market.

shrug

Don’t think he has the time though.

Copilot is great. The copium and hate is a lol.

Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world on 01 Nov 2024 12:49 next collapse

What does it do that you can’t get by typing something into the chatgpt website?

IsThisAnAI@lemmy.world on 01 Nov 2024 13:37 collapse

Better privacy policy, better results unless you are paying.

TheFeatureCreature@lemmy.world on 01 Nov 2024 15:22 next collapse

Wow, this comment teleported me back to 2010 dealing with edgy 15 year-olds that think their opinion is the only thing that matters.

Turns out, people don’t like it when software is installed on their computers without their permission. Especially when it violates their privacy! The term for this is “malware”.

IsThisAnAI@lemmy.world on 01 Nov 2024 15:46 collapse

Most people don’t give two shits if it makes their life easier.

yetAnotherUser@lemmy.ca on 01 Nov 2024 15:59 collapse

Do tell, how does it make your life easier?

IsThisAnAI@lemmy.world on 01 Nov 2024 17:02 collapse

Better search than Google, generate outlines for work, summarizing long documents, writing out initial drafts for policy.

Based of these three use cases and zero knowledge of job I’ll make these insane assumptions. Full tilt.

They need to stop trying to shoehorn AI into anything and everything.

It has many good applications, but many places where more an annoyance than a feature

franklin@lemmy.world on 01 Nov 2024 17:47 next collapse

If you absolutely must use Windows 10 or 11, I heavily recommend you use the IoT variant with all this ripped out.

Codilingus@sh.itjust.works on 05 Nov 2024 01:58 collapse

11 IoT Enterpise LTSC is the way to go. Definitely don’t waste your time looking for it on massgravedotdev, because they also definitely don’t have permanent hardware activation instructions, either.

kandoh@reddthat.com on 01 Nov 2024 20:55 next collapse

The steam deck is doing great things fot Linux gaming. Us graphic designers clearly need a linux based drawing tablet.

enshittificate isn’t a word.

echodot@feddit.uk on 02 Nov 2024 00:09 collapse

And yet we all know what it means.

So it is a word.

English isn’t like French we don’t have council of arbitrary definitions of what is and is not a word. If you know what it means it is therefore a word.

Stop trying to gatekeepe stuff, it’s weird and boring

mudmaniac@lemmy.world on 02 Nov 2024 00:29 next collapse

That’s a very cromulent thing to say.

Siegfried@lemmy.world on 02 Nov 2024 02:05 collapse

If any Spanish speaker is as confused as I was, just note that “cromulent” has perfecta validancia

otp@sh.itjust.works on 02 Nov 2024 04:59 next collapse

I thought it was a mistake/typo. Those don’t instantly become words just because a reader can guess the meaning

captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works on 02 Nov 2024 13:16 collapse

Why say “enshittificate” when “enshittify” will do?

Guys! Guys! Guess what! Kohler and American standard are going up against Toto in a battle of the flushes! They teamed up with Microsoft to add Copilot to every toilet in America! Initially this will be in the form of a heated electrified seat with AI powered slow close. But as it …sorry, ass it learns, it will be able to do things we never imagined!

Like haven’t you ever wished to have a gentle warm water ball massage 😉 given to you automatically by your brother-in-law’s toilet when you come over and visit?

Wouldn’t it be cool if the same amenities were available at the Walmart too and the Costco or even the local recreational public park toilets? Imagine what these seats could learn about the go on the go! And the convenience of not having to bring your own ball massager everywhere you go is just incredible.

AI control could bring bidet’s everywhere the ability to clean the areas that need to be cleaned and leave the other areas dryer than before! You’d be in and out in a jiffy! Imagine that! A no-mess public toilet anywhere you go!
