Do you really think OpenAI is going to get sued? Because Elon’s company has an image generator that has no restrictions on generating a copyrighted character.

Have they sued him? No, it’s still carrying on as if nothing happened. And what did Nintendo do when a government agency used its song for a video? Nothing, for now.

Pikachu is dead and Mickey ain’t doing shit. Disney donates to the govt that’s working in OpenAIs favor

Imagine if all copyright claims worked this way. “Nintendo didn’t opt out of me using their content, so I made a Mario game.”

Everyone on Earth owes me $50, and it’s opt out to not have to pay me.

This post serves as warning and notice.

I’ll collect in 30 days unless a lemmy account is created and requests to opt out by providing your identifying and bank info.

This is, just to be clear, not remotely how copyright works.

By that logic, I could decide that movie studios have to opt out of me watching their movies for free, and if they don’t then it’s legal for me to pirate them. See how insane that sounds?

Copyright is automatic and presumptive, and takes effect without any action on the behalf of the holder (this is distinct from trademarks, which have to be actively defended). There is no such thing as “opt out” use of copyrighted works.

That sounds perfectly fine to me. This is now the official policy of all the serviced provided by gravitywell.xyz

I think the intellectual property regime is an inhuman abomination and advocating in its favour should be a criminal act.
If it is not destroyed, AI companies will use it to completely enslave us.
AI companies ARE already the government, we should strive to disempower them at every turn before it’s too late.

That’s not how the law works.
