There is a legal basis: congress passed a law, the president at the time signed it, TikTok sued, and the Supreme Court unanimously ruled against TikTok. Thatâs a legal basis by definition.
Perhaps you mean that there is no rational basis. Thatâs a reasonable position you can argue for.

The far right is using TikTok to reach young demographics. Banning it directly contradicts his interests.

Yeah, all of the âvibes are offâ jokes aside, TikTok is drastically different after the ban was lifted. I have gotten straight up racist and fascist propaganda on my fyp, and there are a lot of sympathetic comments on those videos. But I never got those videos before, because my algorithm was automatically filtering them out. Itâs almost as if the app has been programmed to bypass the algorithm and occasionally show alt-right talking points to everyone, just in the hopes of casting as wide a net as possible.

How is he being blackmailed by TWO superpowers?
Itâs hardly blackmail. Heâs benefited immensely from the right wing turn on TikTok. Theyâve got a Sword of Damacles over their heads that can drop any time the site turns against him.
Hard to have standing over a third party not doing something to someone else that would hurt them to maybe(key point here) help you. Itâs possible to argue yourself there but the bar is incredibly high. If you canât assign direct provable causation and redress, youâre SOL.
Itâs kind of like how nobody really could challenge DACA in the courts from the Republican side because all the harms they cited were hypothetical.

Trump took full control of the DHS and the FBI, staffed it with loyal goons, and is actively arresting/assaulting anyone who stands in his way.
This isnât a matter of âno ballsâ, its a matter of Biden handing Trumpâs biggest supporters a bunch of money and guns back in 2021 and Trump telling these guys âArrest all the Bidencratsâ the moment he took office.

Weâve been busting through constitutional amendments with abandon. I donât think you could point to one that this administration would honor or respect.
Which is why they lable anyone they arrest as a criminal, doesnât have to be true. You heard Trump, having a trial for each one would take too long. So just slap a label on them and say youâre though on crime.
The thing is the statute of limitations extends beyond Trumpâs presidency and the penalties are levied against the hosting and distributing companies (Oracle, Google, Apple) wouldnât it be lovely if the next president assuming we get a next president enforced the law and collected the fines from these companies.

I mean, sort of, yes, but also no? Itâs another tool of power for a tyrannical government to wield, even if it is against companies I dislike.
Is it tyrannical to make companies obey laws they donât agree with? I mean itâs probably tyrannical for the law to exist in the first place but this feels like a âwell well well if it isnât the consequences of my own actionsâ for these companies propping up establishment candidates who line up be cucked by Israel.
Havenât judges been knocking down a bunch of his proclamations? Itâs not bulletproof, and it hasnât been everything, but clearly some things are a bridge too far. At least for now.

In this case, someone would have to sue or otherwise intervene. But that action is radically unpopular. Nobody wants to be that guy.
There is a legal basis. US can ban Russian Times paper, too.
This isnât TACO, itâs graft.

PatrickStar.meme - âIs Money a legal basis?â
The legal basis is someone with standing would have to sue him over it. Tiktokm certainly isnât going to and Congress⌠Well.
Maybe Elmo could, now that they broke up. He could argue that TikTok existing makes Twitterâs videos less popular.
