  • šŸ’ Casio made a ring that tells the time
  • šŸ“ Itā€™s made from a single piece of metal and comes with a classic digital face
  • šŸ“± Itā€™s not a smart ring, which means you canā€™t track your health with it
  • šŸ‡ÆšŸ‡µ Casio will sell it in Japan to celebrate 50 years in the watch business

Uhm it looks very odd, like you somehow have miniature wrists.

Kyrgizion@lemmy.world on 16 Nov 21:43 collapse

Seems rather bulky for a ring also. I wonder if it snags on a lot of things while using your hands normally.

I like Casio watches, but yeah Iā€™d pass.

And the comparison to a smart ring is pants-on-head stupidā€¦

Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world on 16 Nov 22:14 next collapse

I kinda like it but rings bother me more than watches

Please focus on affordable dumb TVs ā€“ thanks.

9point6@lemmy.world on 16 Nov 23:03 next collapse

Wait Casio make TVs?

schizo@forum.uncomfortable.business on 16 Nov 23:24 collapse

They made awesome portable TVs like uh, 30 years ago.

That and cheap and cheerful musical keyboards.

makkurokurosuke@lemmy.world on 17 Nov 05:20 collapse

It took me years to realize that my childhood Casio keyboard played Wake Me Up Before You Go Go and thatā€™s why I liked the song

Wth is this article, the ring is being made in celebration of them as a watch company. Itā€™s a cute little gimmicky ring because making an anniversary watch is exactly what people expect them to do.

They didnā€™t make a ring to compete with the Oura or Samsungā€™s whatever. The article even mentions the Timex ring watch which was similarly made because theyā€™re celebrating 170 years of being in the business. Why even bring up smart rings/watches at all?

TheFogan@programming.dev on 17 Nov 05:53 collapse

Iā€™m about to release a not so smart AR Headset. Super light, It wonā€™t generate fake TV screens or give information like the apple vision pro, but it will just be tinted to help bright sunlight be less bright. Still brainstorming what to call this low tech VR/AR technology.

This is golden.

Donā€™t over think it, call is the Augmented Reality Sunlight Absorption Headset with AI.

I want this ring.

milicent_bystandr@lemm.ee on 17 Nov 02:21 next collapse

Okay I misread that title as ā€œCasio made a One Ring alternativeā€

TheFogan@programming.dev on 17 Nov 05:46 collapse

Wonā€™t track your health, Wonā€™t prevent aids. May make you invisible to the seen realm, and draw the attention of unseen beings.

Beware the Great Eye of Google. Ever it roams, ever it watches.

You can now give someone the finger and tell them thatā€™s the only time you have for them

aweee itā€™s so smol

Nuke_the_whales@lemmy.world on 17 Nov 04:01 next collapse

Ring watches are a thing. Seen them for a while but usually they look like rings and have a flap or something

catsarebadpeople@sh.itjust.works on 17 Nov 04:55 next collapse

What a moronic headline

TheGrandNagus@lemmy.world on 17 Nov 09:43 collapse

Yeah what on earth? Itā€™s not a health monitoring ring alternative, and doesnā€™t try to be. Itā€™s a watch in ring form.

Smart rings/health monitoring rings are not the norm, I donā€™t see why any other ring would be automatically compared to them.

Itā€™s not like many people have heard of that brand of ring, so itā€™s not even the kind of clickbait that would attract people, like mentioning an Apple product would be, or when anything about any EV would have to have Tesla in the title (e.g. ā€œIs this EV a Tesla KILLER???ā€)

Iā€™m not much of a ring wearer, I donā€™t even wear my own wedding ring, but this one actually looks pretty neat to me. I hope the battery is as easy to replace as they claim it to be.

Blackmist@feddit.uk on 17 Nov 11:19 next collapse

It was either that or show that picture of Bin Laden again.

DrDystopia@lemy.lol on 17 Nov 13:25 next collapse

Itā€™s not a smart ring, which means you canā€™t track your health with it

It can tell you your pulse BPM, just count how many heartbeats you get and measure one minute with the watch.

Omega_Jimes@lemmy.ca on 17 Nov 13:36 next collapse

Well thatā€™s just about the cutest darn ring Iā€™ve ever seen.

random_character_a@lemmy.world on 17 Nov 16:08 collapse

Thatā€™s so obscene Iā€™m willing to trow some money at it.

CaptKoala@lemmy.ml on 18 Nov 09:22 collapse

Itā€™s the only ring Iā€™ve seen in years I would actually wear.
