Napster… Sorry, who??

They’re still around??

🤷‍♂️

mostlikelyaperson@lemmy.world on 27 Mar 01:00 collapse

They aren’t really, some crypto bros just bought the name and stuck it to this pile of horseshit, presumably in the hopes of making some money off of idiots.

Alphane_Moon@lemmy.world on 25 Mar 23:03 next collapse

I doubt anyone will use this except for crypto bagholders who have no interest in music (or anything really) and are just looking to dumb their bags the next mark.

mooncake@lemm.ee on 25 Mar 23:04 next collapse

Lol I remember Napster for downloading music damn I’m old.

Dave@lemmy.nz on 26 Mar 03:07 collapse

Holy hell, Napster is a (legal) subscription music streaming service! Crazy times we live in.

Only for the Metaverse? Ha! Guess I won’t be using Napster.

Exec@pawb.social on 25 Mar 23:42 collapse

Yeah, next year they’ll go after NFTs then a year after that they’ll all in for AI.

Telorand@reddthat.com on 25 Mar 23:17 next collapse

FFS, stop trying to make the Metaverse happen. Nobody wants it.

Hey fuck you man. Alright? Let us have our shitty things without the guilt. /s

AarynBlack@lemm.ee on 26 Mar 00:29 next collapse

At least you know it’s shitty…

HowAbt2morrow@futurology.today on 26 Mar 01:48 collapse

Looks like I forgot the /s but yeah, there’s some really shitty stuff on the metaverse but I believe it’s got a future once some things are sorted out. Like the Fediverse.

sem@lemmy.blahaj.zone on 26 Mar 02:24 collapse

The mediverse is a thing now? Like people log onto it? I thought it was just a failed concept.

Sibshops@lemm.ee on 26 Mar 00:48 next collapse

No shame in liking what you like. Roblox is a metaverse and lots of people play on that.

You didn’t self censor your obvious humor??? You’re on social media! 🤨

HowAbt2morrow@futurology.today on 27 Mar 18:41 collapse

The rules on the Fediverse are different I thought? No?

satans_methpipe@lemmy.world on 27 Mar 17:06 collapse

Just a heads up: internet points don’t matter at all. They have no bearing on real actual life. You can relax.

HowAbt2morrow@futurology.today on 27 Mar 18:40 collapse

Mr. Satans Methpipe sir, with all due devil respect, but you have no idea what I’m doing with these points in the metaverse, where they mean a lot. But thanks for the devilish concern.

satans_methpipe@lemmy.world on 27 Mar 21:00 collapse

Lol carry on I guess.

taladar@sh.itjust.works on 26 Mar 11:04 collapse

Those who want it have been using it for 20 years already with Second Life. Oddly enough, none of these new metaverse makers take any lessons learned from that but I guess then they would have to admit that VR is crap that nobody needs for immersion.

peteyestee@feddit.org on 27 Mar 01:15 collapse

I like vr. 😿

There are dozens of you! Dozens!

ShellMonkey@lemmy.socdojo.com on 25 Mar 23:23 next collapse

It’s impressive and somewhat concerning what people will pay for a name. Historic as it is Napster died long long ago

wirebeads@lemmy.ca on 25 Mar 23:54 collapse

I’ll go fire up limewire now. Be right back.

Maiq@lemy.lol on 26 Mar 01:08 next collapse

Obligatory, FUCK YOU Lars Ulrich!

fork_hero@lemm.ee on 26 Mar 02:13 next collapse

Mm. Nah. I’m just confused who this is supposed to be for: people who used Napster for free music or people who say “what’s a Napster?”

Fredselfish@lemmy.world on 26 Mar 02:57 collapse

TIL Napster still exist. I thought it got shut down in the early 2000’s?

mostlikelyaperson@lemmy.world on 27 Mar 00:58 collapse

It did, but the branding got sold a few times and is now in the hands of some crypto company.

kambusha@sh.itjust.works on 26 Mar 07:12 next collapse

Beer good. Napster bad.

cupcakezealot@lemmy.blahaj.zone on 27 Mar 11:17 next collapse

maybe lars ulrich was right after all
