We identified 24 wallets that bought $MELANIA in the minutes before the existence of the coin and its backing from the first lady was publicised (via Melania’s Truth Social account, naturally). These people — who knew where to get the coins and were apparently confident it was not one of the hundreds of unofficial Trump family coins — bought $2.6mn of the tokens and flipped them within days for about $100mn. As many FT readers clocked, this is not exactly how a normal float should work. Memecoins are an arena with all the accoutrements and vocabulary of finance but lacking even the level of regulation that governs the sale of Beanie Babies.

Holy shit.

It’s okay, we’ll just get rid of the regulations on everything else so this one fits the norm.

The mystery is how anyone could be confused about any of this.

It’s the most successful criminal enterprise in modern times.

They have spread like cancer into every aspect of government and are corrupting American daily life.

The only remedy available is

Courts they corrupted this

Voters box and this

Opposition party resistance this corrupted itself mostly but there are enemies within as well

It seems the only options left are “illegal”

It’s cool tho. They’ll kill you and rape your daughter and force her to have their baby

Because that’s their plan.

It’s hard for me to justify illegal acts when the general populace voted for an continue to support this. Feel like I’m better off just abandoning the country. Feels hopeless.

I wish I could leave but that takes money which I don’t have.

Did they though? Only 63.4% of voting eligible citizens voted in '24. And of those only 49.8% voted for trump. He has never won a majority of the popular vote. Ever. It’s due to the electoral college and the cap on representatives in the house. This gives a significant advantage to lower population states that typically lean republican. Those rules seemed to make sense before we could reasonably collect, count results, and communicate that info in a day. Those rules no longer make sense but as it benefits the republicans they will hold that hill until they die. This country would be shaped very differently if we used the popular vote.

I appreciate the nuance but also don’t particularly care for it. It’s far far too many people. People who didn’t show up could easily be characterized as apathetic, which isn’t much better.

FaceDeer@fedia.io on 12 May 18:11 collapse

Yeah, people who can vote but don't are implicitly voting for "whatever everyone else thinks."

As a Canadian, I support your use of violence to get your homeland back. As a Canadian, don’t come here if you decide to abandon. You are all tainted now.

Ulrich@feddit.org on 12 May 18:34 next collapse

The funny thing is we have a right to violence established in our founding documents but the only people who support that right are the people currently in control.

Not all advocates of the 2nd amendment are Republican, or even conservative. The world isn’t black and white.

hey just curious, do you want to annex any of the successor states if the US dissolves or do you just want to be friends

I think the reason why Luigi is considered a saint is because he took one for the team, sparing the masses from police violence.
