Figure out how to deal with nuclear waste and maybe.

Amazon prime uranium deliveries.

I thought that the solution there has always been to bury it in desert bunkers for 10,000 years.

If we’re still around by the time that becomes too cumbersome we are hopefully space-faring and then yeeting it into Jupiter becomes an option.

There are actually relatively easy (easy compared to building a nuclear reactor) ways to deal with the waste that involve mixing it with concrete and glass so it can be safely stored in a way that won’t impact the surrounding environment. Kyle Hill has a great video about this on YouTube: youtu.be/4aUODXeAM-k

I thought it’s already figured out, recycle it like in France.

MyOpinion@lemm.ee on 16 Oct 2024 20:56 next collapse

Not figured out here in the states. They just turn the site into a nuke waste dump.

funtrek@discuss.tchncs.de on 17 Oct 2024 07:49 next collapse

There is no recycling of nuclear waste. Nowhere.

Emi@ani.social on 17 Oct 2024 07:57 next collapse

Nuclear reprocessing then if you insist on right wording.

kaffiene@lemmy.world on 17 Oct 19:47 collapse

Reprocessing reduces waste but it does not eliminate it. Its like saying that curb side plastics recycling has solved the microplastics issue

Found the oil shill.

funtrek@discuss.tchncs.de on 17 Oct 2024 11:26 collapse

No. I’m a huge fan of the nuclear fusion reactor in the sky.

How much is the taxpayer going to pitch in here?

These corpos are on media blitz tho, verge getting their 20k for this one lol

Their billions of dollars in profit could’ve started this process decades ago. They’re just doing it now because they need to keep pace with AI data processing demands. It’s a net-zero strategy.

I’m looking at black holes to power my energy needs!

First things first…I will create a black hole here on Earth. This is very complicated and I will have to invent a ton of technology to get that done. That’s as far as I can think of right now. Whenever we have the black hole, we’ll have a meeting to figure out the rest of the plan.

obbeel@lemmy.eco.br on 17 Oct 2024 03:06 next collapse

Incredible. How can companies have that much power? Buying a nuclear reactor as if it were a birthday gift.

scottmeme@sh.itjust.works on 17 Oct 2024 04:14 next collapse

When can I expect to get depleted uranium rods to be delivered to my home?

B312@lemmy.world on 17 Oct 2024 07:01 next collapse

It’s good that they’re doing this even if it’s for their own gain

teuto@lemmy.teuto.icu on 17 Oct 2024 17:55 collapse

Well when the LLM craze collapses in the nearish future we’ll have a bunch more nuclear power in the 2030’s. So that’s good I guess?

tee9000@lemmy.world on 17 Oct 2024 18:13 collapse

And we will have even more energy when this internet fad dies off
