I’m happy to use something besides X, but when all I see on Bluesky is a circle jerk of people that love Biden & saying that Kamala ran a flawless campaign, then I start to hate it.

Dirk@lemmy.ml on 16 Dec 16:50 next collapse

Bluesky is a circle jerk

Thats the problem of all corporate-funded social media.

fuckwit_mcbumcrumble@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 16 Dec 17:56 collapse

Thats the problem of all~~ corporate-funded~~ social media.

Lets be honest, the fediverse aint much better.

glimse@lemmy.world on 16 Dec 18:08 next collapse

A ton of the fediverse feels less like social media and more like new buckets to fill with old memes…there’s very little original content on here which is, in my opinion, the best part of social media with strangers.

I miss pre-trump Twitter.

brucethemoose@lemmy.world on 16 Dec 20:47 collapse

But I think it’s less likely to get worse because aggressive engagement optimization is not the goal of any Fediverse project or instance.

This is (to me) the cancer of Reddit, Twitter and such. Awful, boring things are amplified because, on average, they make the most money.

fxomt@lemm.ee on 16 Dec 16:58 next collapse

Bluesky may be a circle-jerk, but at least it isn’t a literal neo nazi platform. We still have a ways to go till the fediverse goes mainstream.

OR3X@lemm.ee on 16 Dec 17:02 next collapse

That and weird furry diaper art.

CarbonIceDragon@pawb.social on 16 Dec 17:22 collapse

You can find plenty of weird furry fetish art on the fediverse too if you find the right instances, that’s just an internet thing.

OR3X@lemm.ee on 16 Dec 17:26 collapse

Yeah, and that’s understandable but this was appearing in my discover feed by default which is kinda ehhhhh. If someone is into that sure, but most people aren’t and if they see that as part of their first impression of a platform it’s probably going to be a turnoff.

garretble@lemmy.world on 16 Dec 18:16 next collapse

I like Bluesky, but I don’t disagree with this. When I started there last year it was A LOT of furry art and furry stuff. And they have every right to do all that. Go to town; I don’t care. But I also don’t really want to see it all over my feed(s).

I ended up subscribing to a list that mutes a ton of furry stuff, and that’s really helped clean up the feed.

Enkers@sh.itjust.works on 16 Dec 20:08 collapse

This is something I kinda wish was a more common feature: a robust tagging system. That way you could just opt in/out of the tags you don’t want to see. Reddit kinda sorta had a partial solution, but it always seemed tacked-on.

Of course, there are a lot of difficulties to make a good tagging system, and it requires either centralisation or coordination. The former goes against lemmy’s decentralised philosophy, and the latter requires a lot of extra moderation/admin work.

Enkers@sh.itjust.works on 16 Dec 18:37 collapse

OK, but what if you were into it and didn’t know?

Seriously, though, NSFW content in all or discover should probably be opt-in only.

TheSealStartedIt@lemmy.world on 16 Dec 19:04 next collapse

Just stay on X, looks like you’re the target audience.

realitista@lemm.ee on 16 Dec 22:16 next collapse

If you follow groups that are about other stuff, you will find them. There are plenty of starter packs, even for conservative stuff.

c0c0c0@lemmy.world on 18 Dec 10:51 collapse

I see the same thing. And as your down-votes suggest, Lemmy isn’t much better. People seem to miss out on the fact that, just because one side is very wrong, that doesn’t mean the other is entirely flawless. The left is now blowing sunshine up their own posteriors, and demanding others do the same. They become what they despise.

timewarp@lemmy.world on 18 Dec 13:52 collapse

They lost to Trump again and appear to have learned nothing. Same ole blame everyone but ourselves.

solsangraal@lemmy.zip on 16 Dec 16:59 next collapse

good job, humanity. all it took for you to finally leave twitter was literal fascism

SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone on 16 Dec 17:03 next collapse

…and they’re still too weak willed to do anything other than jump ship to another corporate shithole that’s sure to enshittify (Bluesky literally owes millions to Blockchain Capital). Then they yell “I’ll just move to the next big thing when that’s over!” (Nevermind that you’ve created another billionaire who will use their money to influence politics in the process) Man, these people really love the capital class just exploiting the living shit out of their lives every step of the way, don’t they? Because learning a different system that doesn’t have corporate polish is too hard. Better to just get all your data sucked up and exploited time and time again rather than choosing a non-corporate option that doesn’t involve making a small number of people obscenely rich just because you used their social media.

Humans are fucking trash.

ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world on 18 Dec 10:29 collapse

Bluesky already started to give special treatment to some far-right agitators (Jesse Singal), so the enshittification might begin even before the monetization.

Also someone have yet to write anything with ATProto to give Bluesky some reality check.

bit of a sanctimonious comment, fascism feels like a perfectly fair line for the early and late majorities to draw. it takes a lot of energy to move half a billion people—that doesn’t make the early exiters morally better, just better positioned and informed.

LOL are you serious? “innovation adoption” wtf

it’s not “innovation” and it’s not “adoption”

it’s legit nazi propaganda, and it’s abandonment. i sincerely hope you’re just making a half ass attempt at trolling

egrets@lemmy.world on 16 Dec 18:06 collapse

Chill. The graphic wasn’t made for this specific discussion. It’s a widely accepted way to group users of a service. In this case, the bell curve represents the adoption of something other than Twitter by Twitter users, and the driver isn’t “new thing to try” (in as much as neither federated or newer centralized microblogging platforms have much new to offer), it’s the slowly-heating pot of water that the frog is in.

spujb@lemmy.cafe on 16 Dec 18:14 collapse

thank you for telling them to chill. rather than engaging i’ll just put my stamp of approval to this and move on 😭

The first article doesn’t say he’s not fascist (unless I missed it somehow or it got lost in translation. I’m an English only pleb)

And I found the second article (in English 😅) since your link has it paywalled. theguardian.com/…/trump-rally-fascism-politics

I understand the argument, but don’t find it overwhelmingly convincing. They even start the article mentioning how well respected historians believe he’s fascist, as well as former White House staff.

I’d argue that just because he’s not been totally supportive of violence doesn’t excuse the times he was promoting violence. And I think his actions show he would be more openly supportive of violence if he knew he could get away with it

What do they need twitter for now? They have the NSA.

Replubliclan@lemmy.cafe on 16 Dec 20:51 next collapse

You just adore Lemmy because Twitter’s free speech is way too burdensome. Why deal with the hassle of open dialogue when you can snuggle up in your censorship blanket? I mean, who wouldn’t want to live in a digital nanny state where your thoughts are pre-approved before you even think them? Bravo, Lemmy users, you’ve found your paradise of intellectual suppression.

Soooo… a wave?

MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca on 18 Dec 11:52 next collapse

The death spiral of a social platform:

Some percentage of people want to leave, find alternatives and leave.

Some percentage of people follow them out the door, because staying in touch with those people is more important than any perceived “loyalty” to $socialplatform.

Repeat the last step until all users have left.
