I don’t think it worked. I think most people know how it is quite with the genocidal state of israel.

homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world on 15 Jul 14:08 next collapse

I think a lot of people specifically avoid reading news about it. They do not notice in their scrolling when google tucks an ad in there, though.

rottingleaf@lemmy.world on 15 Jul 18:21 collapse

I think it did, if it didn’t work, then street and TV ads wouldn’t go much further than the stage described in one Colombo episode.

It works as well as the funding growth shows. One would think all of the Web and of TV and radio are full of ads, but the funding grows even more. This means ads work and humans obey.

A_norny_mousse@feddit.org on 15 Jul 09:30 next collapse

Helped? As in, they’re not doing it anymore? Color me skeptical. But I’m going to read the article now.

edit: Ok it’s about the specific latest waves of videos justifying the attack on Iran. As if Israel hasn’t been engaging in Russian-style disinformation for decades. With the help of big G and others.

In clear breach of Google’s policies, these ads justify and lionize the attack as a necessary defense of Western civilization, and claim that Israel is carrying out “one of the largest humanitarian missions in the world” in Gaza.

That’s so diametrically opposed to the truth, it’s cynical. I hope Google gets what it deserves for allowing that. Not to speak of Israel.

“Iran’s ballistic missile program isn’t just a threat to Israel, it is a threat to Europe and the Western world,” another, seen by 1.5 million viewers in just three weeks, claims. “Iran is developing missiles with ranges of approximately 4000 km. That places Europe within the regime’s striking distance,” it adds, as graphics show virtually the entire continent turning blood red, signifying a nuclear attack. “This isn’t tomorrow’s threat. It is today’s reality. The threat posed by the Iranian regime must be stopped. Israel does what must be done.”

And this is so vastly exaggerated, it’s fearmongering. It’s “Iraq has weapons of mass destruction” all over again. And even if, why would they want to attack Europe? It makes no sense. We’re not the enemy.

In the day immediatelly after the US bombing of Iran we had a guy on TV here in Portugal using exactly this kind of argumentation (he used at least 2 or 3 “arguments” which were very much the same as the propaganda for the second Iraq war).

He was from some Think Tank and I looked it up and it that turns out it’s pro-US pro-Israel pro-Nato and basically aligned with the Fascists from before the Revolution who “turned” Democrats.

The various Propaganda outlets set up in Europe by the US for decades probably pass their propaganda cheatsheets around.

Mind you, the guy seemed weirdly unconfortable whilst spewing that shit.

Alphane_Moon@lemmy.world on 15 Jul 10:02 next collapse

Keep in mind this is an extremely shit source, they are basically a lite version of tankies.

Try searching for “Russia” on their site and you’ll find a 1:1 copy of standard russian propaganda copytext (justification for the invasion of Ukraine, claiming Ukraine organized a genocide in Donbas, white washing russian crimes).

If they can’t be consistent, it is likely their concern Gaza about is a ruse, as is extremely common among western “leftists”.

And the roaches that manage this site likely don’t speak Ukrainian or russian and have never lived in Ukraine or russia.

despite the source though, google has been providing services for israel to enforce apartheid

Alphane_Moon@lemmy.world on 15 Jul 11:54 collapse

That likely is true, but you don’t want to use a source that is definitely compromised.

toofpic@lemmy.world on 15 Jul 10:40 next collapse

Is this an article about Technology?

SheeEttin@lemmy.zip on 15 Jul 11:12 next collapse

Not really, no. If it was about how media platforms in general are used for propaganda then maybe it would be.

toofpic@lemmy.world on 15 Jul 11:25 collapse

My point is that, regardless of any personal opinions on the matter, it is a strange post for a place called “Technology”, as it is definitely a “Politics” post.

queueBenSis@sh.itjust.works on 15 Jul 11:34 collapse

without the technology involved though (from a Big Tech company), the reach of the propaganda would be much lower.

Why would propaganda to convince people that a genocide is acceptable be considered just politics? Shit like this falls into many buckets because it’s important to spread awareness across as many communities as possible. Who knows, if hundreds of millions more people knew what the nazis were doing in the 30s, maybe it would’ve been stopped earlier

Yes

Google does try to feed me news from “The Times of Israel”, quite often, which is really odd. Usually I only get shown valid local news, occasionally stuff from America too.

And… The Times of Israel, I guess?

davel@lemmy.ml on 15 Jul 23:01 collapse

The corporate algorithms are not on the side of the Palestinians.

Mrkawfee@lemmy.world on 15 Jul 12:09 collapse

Did anyone see the Israeli propaganda videos about Iran. It was so disgustingly offensive because it was in between videos and couldn’t be skipped. Fuck Google.
