I’m sure there’s tons of Muskrat fans who’d love one but unfortunately they don’t have brains.

Tandybaum@lemmy.world on 09 Nov 2023 13:34 next collapse

This really might be the one that gets him. It’s one thing when self driving doesn’t quite work right or when that tunnel project gets abandoned. If they install these things and people get seriously hurt (I know cars can hurt people) it’s going to be a shit storm.

defintily musk is not gonna be prepared for this one

He’s probably snorting coke right now anyways.

cheese_greater@lemmy.world on 09 Nov 2023 17:47 collapse

What is actually known about Musk’s drug use? I heard he was on Ambien and he obviously smokes weed now and again, what else is our little genius hopped up on?

Edit: I have zero evidence for this but I can’t see how Adderall or something similar is not involved. He’s Aspie so its a little tricky to seperate that out but I dont know how anyone that “productive”/active isnt on something Xtra

Edit: by heard I meant Musk said it, whilst smoking on JRE

bus_go_fast@lemmy.world on 09 Nov 2023 23:47 collapse

Truth doesn’t matter to Musk, so we should care about the truth when talking about him. He lies, promotes white suprmacist rheotric and conspiracies. The whole Twitter buy thing seems so odd. What a dipshit.

What do you mean? You see no potential for anything good coming from this at all? I certainly see some things to fuck about this (including the asshole payroll ING the project) but not “Everything”

cabron_offsets@lemmy.world on 09 Nov 2023 15:34 next collapse

I discount quite heavily any knowledge that may come of this because musk is a goddamn egomaniacal child. I take all of his shit with a heaping dose of skepticism. Put a serious thinker in charge and I’d have a different opinion.

Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works on 09 Nov 2023 18:43 collapse

Yeah he will fuck it up and use it for evil, but the science is sound and this should help the race for commercialization and improved safety for reanimation implants only available at super selective research levels currently. Don’t be a luddite about any potential for good. Most things are shades of grey guy.

BURN@lemmy.world on 09 Nov 2023 20:07 collapse

I see a select few medical devices benefiting from this, which they would have eventually gotten to anyways without musk and his extremely poor research methods.

I’m never getting anything like this. Doubly so if it’s developed by big tech. The possible benefits don’t even get close to outweighing the negatives

Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works on 09 Nov 2023 22:20 collapse

Curious, do you mind sharing how many extremities you have that are paralyzed? I would weigh your input accordingly

BURN@lemmy.world on 09 Nov 2023 22:39 collapse

I guarantee musk isn’t going to be healing paraplegics with this. That research is being done by medical professionals who haven’t killed all their test subjects.

This is being done to make as much money as possible at the expense of as many lives need to be sacrificed to get there.

Zellith@kbin.social on 09 Nov 2023 14:35 next collapse

https://www.wired.com/story/elon-musk-pcrm-neuralink-monkey-deaths/

UC Davis veterinary records cited by the Physicians Committee—which WIRED also obtained through a subsequent California public records request—chronicle a battery of complications that developed following procedures involving electrodes being surgically implanted into monkeys’ brains. The complications include bloody diarrhea, partial paralysis, and cerebral edema, a condition colloquially known as “brain swelling.”

Additional veterinary reports show the condition of a female monkey called “Animal 15” during the months leading up to her death in March 2019. Days after her implant surgery, she began to press her head against the floor for no apparent reason; a symptom of pain or infection, the records say. Staff observed that though she was uncomfortable, picking and pulling at her implant until it bled, she would often lie at the foot of her cage and spend time holding hands with her roommate.

Yeah. I think I'll pass.

Grimy@lemmy.world on 09 Nov 2023 17:58 next collapse

This is some of the coolest tech thats currently within our grasp. It will not only completely cure a lot of ailments but lead to fdvr.

Id burn alive a million monkeys if it lets some 5 year suddenly walk. Id burn double that if I can get some isekai catgirl harem going on.

We literally torture animals just to make sure makeup is safe, get mad about that. This is some serious sci fi shit that will open an insane amount of door, regardless of who is behind it. Pick you battles.

People that mindlessly hate on something just because Musk is involved are as brain dead as the ones that constantly praise him without thought.

Boogiepop@lemmy.world on 09 Nov 2023 18:08 next collapse

I hope you’re an early adopter, given the level of resolve you have towards this.

Grimy@lemmy.world on 09 Nov 2023 19:04 collapse

Hell no, but I won’t shame the ones that are either brave or desperate enough

BURN@lemmy.world on 09 Nov 2023 19:34 collapse

We should not be relying on desperate people to volunteer for life ending medical experiments because capitalism has failed them. This is a shit tier take

BURN@lemmy.world on 09 Nov 2023 18:12 collapse

You’re welcome to volunteer to be the first patient, I mean experiment

And those practices of testing on animals are inhumane and are being phased out.

Edit: Oh, and we all hate it not (just) because it’s musk, but also because it’s had next to no success in animal trials and offers no benefits other than data tracking inside our heads

Grimy@lemmy.world on 09 Nov 2023 19:08 collapse

How else are we going to test brain to computer interfaces? All animal testing is inhuman but some of it is necessary to advance. Like I said, go complain about animal testing for vanity products instead of society altering tech. But you won’t, because you don’t give a fuck about the animals, you only care about the musk circle jerk.

BURN@lemmy.world on 09 Nov 2023 19:11 collapse

We test them when they’re actually ready to be tested. These are clearly not even ready for animal based testing, let alone human testing.

These devices are so far from ready they shouldn’t even be near a living animal

Grimy@lemmy.world on 09 Nov 2023 19:30 collapse

Do you have insider knowledge on these technologies? How do you know it wasn’t ready? Do you think they would be at human trials if it wasn’t ready a year ago for animal testing.

My point anyways is that we shouldn’t be doing any testing for things like mascara, but brain computer interfaces are a valid reason.

Regardless, we do worse for things that are a lot less warranted than this. Your phone has inhumane treatment of actual humans written all over it. Your whole 1st world luxury life screams of sin but you waste your time getting mad on things that could bring about great benefit just because of a name associated with it.

Keep screaming about it, chimp.

BURN@lemmy.world on 09 Nov 2023 19:33 collapse

Nearly every test subject died. That’s pretty clearly not ready. Don’t need insider information to know that killing the majority of your test subjects means your product isn’t ready for the next stage of testing, rather it’s ready to go back to the drawing board and start over with something that won’t kill all its subjects.

Now you’re just being racist.

Grimy@lemmy.world on 09 Nov 2023 19:36 collapse

Lmao, how am I being racist?

BURN@lemmy.world on 09 Nov 2023 19:36 collapse

Calling people “chimps” is a very common slur used against black people

Grimy@lemmy.world on 09 Nov 2023 19:41 collapse

Okay, you are actually an idiot. You don’t think, that in this context, I might be just calling you a dumb monkey? I don’t know what color skin you have and I’m definitely not trying to insult it. Jesus fuck, the main subject is literally monkeys.

BURN@lemmy.world on 09 Nov 2023 19:42 collapse

Doesn’t really matter. It’s still racist language used in an insult.

Grimy@lemmy.world on 09 Nov 2023 19:50 collapse

It’s first and foremost a noun to designate an animal. When I say you have as much intelligence as a monkey with brain trauma, I don’t mean a black person with brain trauma. When they are saying they are testing on chimps, the article actually does not refer to black people.

Im pretty sure you are the racist one if you automatically associate the word in such a context with black people. It hadn’t even crossed my mind. Most people don’t think “black people” whenever they hear the word chimp.

BURN@lemmy.world on 09 Nov 2023 19:54 collapse

Or I’m just american and have been called a variety of slurs through my life. Language has meaning, and even in other contexts it’s not necessary to use racist language. Describing someone as racist language is not the same as making a comparison.

Anyways, arguing with someone with the average intelligence of the test subjects is a waste of my time. If you love Elon so much I expect you’ll be first in line to test these out. Otherwise you’re just another dick riding idiot who’s fine with everyone else suffering so you can feel superior.

Grimy@lemmy.world on 09 Nov 2023 20:05 collapse

Thanks for using the word test subjects and avoiding the other racially charged options.

I hate Elon, but I can seperate the tech and what it can do for us from the persona. My point is that joining the hate train is the same as riding his dick. It’s all emotion, there is literally no thought to it.

Brain computer interfaces are worth the monkeys*. Some things really aren’t but this is. Concentrate on stopping the vanity animal testing, not this.

But it isn’t about the monkeys* or the testing, it’s all about Elon.

*a small to medium-sized primate that typically has a long tail, most kinds of which live in trees in tropical countries.
