I guess “shopping local” actually still has meaning.

Off topic but I’m always amazed how many of the posts in the Fediverse are about Elon Musk. People are obsessed with this cunt.

ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world on 30 Apr 2024 05:49 next collapse

He has certainly figured out how to be everywhere. Those who find him unlikable love talking about him just like his fans.

Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world on 30 Apr 2024 05:55 next collapse

It used to be fun to disabuse others of the Tony Stark facade. It’s not as rewarding these days, now that everyone knows he’d grab a monkey by the tit

MaggiWuerze@feddit.de on 30 Apr 2024 06:15 next collapse

I’d like to filter him out, but writers can’t seem to stop writing “Elon Musks SpaceX” as if we had to be reminded every time who owns the thing. Imagine every time we talk about Apple we put Tim Cook in front of it

sirico@feddit.uk on 30 Apr 2024 06:32 next collapse

There’s always at least one “All the Elon haters going to love this” type of cope comment in every post regarding him on the service.

ConfusedPossum@kbin.social on 30 Apr 2024 07:01 next collapse

Well I mean he's interesting as a case study, his decisions have real world implications and it seems like he's on a path to a meltdown that many people would love to witness in real time

He’s a modern Howard Hughes, and there’s a reason we know that name

Fediverse is very tech inclined, like Reddit is. So there’s a higher proportion of tech Bros compared to places like Tumblr.

Aceticon@lemmy.world on 30 Apr 2024 18:32 collapse

There’s a higher proportion of Techies here, not Tech Bros.

The so called Tech Bros, i.e. Startup Founders and Early Investors, nowadays are seldom Technical Types and instead are from sales related areas or finance - bullshit meisters all about how to make money using Tech (or, at times, merelly the appearence of Tech) rather than people who actually love Technology.

The era when Startups were led by Techies has been gone for over 2 decades and now it’s all about convincing investors to invest, so it’s all about salesmanship, wealthy or finance connections, not Tech skills.

You want to find Tech Bros, go look for them in Finance and Investment forums.

A lot of people once upon a time trully believed the guy, so there’s a lot who ended up feeling as having been swindled as they figured out more about the man and how most of his promises and his portrayals of the products of his investments were scam-artist bullshit, and that’s a pretty strong feeling that transcends mere dislike.

Then there was a stage when only the most rabid fanboys still believed the guy and, man, those are infuriating usefull idiots with a cult-like view and fast and rabid at coming to defense of the guy. Those types along with TSLA small investors desperately pumping their stock like it was some kind of Muskcoin, did a lot more to turn Musk dislike into hate of him and his companies than they did to make people like and trust the man and his businesses.

And then as the cherry on top of the cake, came his coming out of the closet as a far-right nutter.

So it’s kinda understandable that many don’t just merelly dislike Elon Musk, they detest him, detest his cult members, detest the greed assholes pumping Musk-shit-stocks and thus genuinelly enjoy seeing the cunt directly or indirectly get shafted.

Paywalled, but if that was for q1 the model 3 was ramping up the highland model. The numbers from q1 are meaningless.

Edit: someone posted a non paywalled version and it is q1. So ya, it’s meaningless.

Edit: it’d actually be better to see how the Model Y did in Q1 as a litmus test.

Edit: Reuters reports model Y best selling vehicle in California in Q1

venusaur@lemmy.world on 30 Apr 2024 18:52 collapse

Haha a little extreme. Thinking about it, I’ve never seen a blue lives matter or Trump sticker on a Tesla so I don’t associate with the KKK type crowd. Lots of trucks tho.

takeda@lemmy.world on 30 Apr 2024 07:18 next collapse

Yes, to me Tesla switched from the most desirable car to the least desirable one, exactly because he turned out to be a cunt.

Also in California I see more interest in other electric cars. There are tons of Teslas, but pretty much all new EVs (with temporary license plates) seem to be different brands.

APassenger@lemmy.world on 30 Apr 2024 11:48 next collapse

My current ICE may be due for replacement after over a decade of use.

I want an EV with NACS that isn’t a Tesla. And so I wait. I don’t need anything complicated, but I don’t want to own a car with the “wrong” kind of port.

Edit: Or they could layoff the entire Super Charger team at a time the build out is most necessary and leave things super uncertain.

To car manufacturers: don’t trust Musk. I don’t have strong feelings about which connector “wins,” I just don’t want to be using the one no one else does. And that depresses the value of the car.

Perfide@reddthat.com on 30 Apr 2024 13:31 next collapse

Pretty sure you can get an NACS adapter now, but otherwise non Tesla vehicles pre-equiped with a NACS port are due to arrive next year.

Dianoga@lemm.ee on 30 Apr 2024 14:51 next collapse

You have exactly summed up my views. I currently have a 2020 MY and it convinced me that I probably won’t buy another ICE vehicle. With all the crap coming out of Tesla and Musk lately, I also can’t imagine getting another Tesla.

I’m just waiting for NACS to be built in and hoping today’s layoff news doesn’t ruin that as well…

rusticus@lemm.ee on 30 Apr 2024 17:54 collapse

You will always have the “wrong” kind of port for the life of the car. If you have NACS you need J1772 adapter to charge at some places. If you have CCS you need NACS adapter to charge at Tesla Superchargers. As someone that has both Tesla and Rivian, it’s not a big deal to put an adapter in your trunk and use it when you need it and you need an adapter for both cars. It. Doesn’t. Matter.

APassenger@lemmy.world on 30 Apr 2024 18:48 collapse

It. Doesn’t. Matter.

Yet. Eventually a USB-C will emerge. Then only logitech (backward OEMs) won’t support it.

rusticus@lemm.ee on 30 Apr 2024 19:04 collapse

Yet.

Which is why I specifically said “for the life of the car”. Every car will need an adapter for at least the next decade.

APassenger@lemmy.world on 30 Apr 2024 19:33 collapse

Oof. You think it will take that long? Very honest question.

If that’s how long it takes, I’ll be very sad. You may be right but that bums me out.

rusticus@lemm.ee on 30 Apr 2024 19:46 collapse

Cheaper to build new chargers at new locations than retrofit old ones. You’re already seeing that. So you can choose to have the “default” connector but not have access to all chargers or simply carry an adapter that gives you access to all chargers. Why the hold out against an adapter that costs a fraction of the car? Seriously self defeating attitude.

APassenger@lemmy.world on 30 Apr 2024 21:29 collapse

My car runs and I use it infrequently. Hell, I use it so the battery doesn’t die. No lie. Where I like is imminently walkable.

So I don’t need to rush into anything. That’s not self-defeating; it’s just realism.

rusticus@lemm.ee on 01 May 2024 01:49 collapse

I don’t want to own a car with the “wrong” kind of port.

Basing your buying decision on not needing an adapter is absolutely self defeating for the reasons I’ve made abundantly clear.

Veraxus@lemmy.world on 30 Apr 2024 15:10 next collapse

Also Californian, and I’ve seen Rivian’s presence exploding here in the LA area. If I needed to buy a new car today, Rivian is what I’d get.

Personally, though, I’m holding out for Aptera. The practicality of their dedication to extreme efficiency is just off the charts.

scarabic@lemmy.world on 30 Apr 2024 22:35 collapse

Adding to this, their reputation has really suffered because of widespread quality problems and the fact that they marketed level 2 automation as “Full Self Driving” is now well understood to be deceptive and potentially homicidal.

And anecdotally, Tesla owners drive like entitled pricks. They are, I would say, worse than BMW drivers but not quite as bad as Mercedes drivers. No one is as bad as Mercedes drivers.

phx@lemmy.ca on 30 Apr 2024 21:19 collapse

Yeah it’s funny how these rich babies frame it as being attacked when it’s literally people responding with their money to the immature shitfest.

DaddleDew@lemmy.world on 30 Apr 2024 14:36 next collapse

The problem is that he placed people who are loyal to him on that board a long time ago. That’s how he took control over Tesla and kicked out its original founders to begin with.

rusticus@lemm.ee on 30 Apr 2024 17:51 next collapse

They should have done that a year ago when he bought Twitter. Now it’s too late - the momentum of Tesla’s demise will not be stopped even if they get rid of Musk.

Buddahriffic@lemmy.world on 30 Apr 2024 17:36 collapse

roscoe@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 30 Apr 2024 15:18 next collapse

Even if Tesla somehow managed to de-Elon themselves and address the quality issues, those cars look so dated compared to other EVs that are available and what’s coming soon.

They gave the model 3 a facelift but they really need a major bodystyle update across the whole line. Nothing in the entire line looks much different than the 2009 prototype model S.

They went from being futuristic to boring as fuck.

Edit: Except for the truck, of course. But that’s just something else entirely and I don’t feel like writing an essay.

captainlezbian@lemmy.world on 30 Apr 2024 16:51 next collapse

Yeah I get the whole “no model year” thing to a degree. It’s exactly the sort of shit you’d think of as disruptive if you were him. But there’s a reason the auto industry does it. It’s convenient to put in minor changes once a year and major changes every five or so. It keeps the car modern, new, and easy to figure out what parts you need. You just know the model year of your car because it’s regularly convenient to know

exanime@lemmy.today on 30 Apr 2024 19:27 collapse

Not to defend Musk here but tinkering for the sake of saying you make a change is exactly the kind of consumerism junk we should avoid

There wouldn’t be a problem with year and part numbers if they didn’t arbitrarily changed it just to be able to market the “all new” cuz

I have a Prius and it’s a pita for parts because some refer to it by year, some by generation, some by trim (even if the part has nothing to do with the trim, etc)

I would love to just be able to say Prius gen 4 and be done

corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca on 30 Apr 2024 19:07 collapse

they really need a major bodystyle update across the whole line.
