The domestic terrorist is in the White House.

blimthepixie@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 06 May 17:45 next collapse

An anagram of ‘domestic terrorist’ is moist or restricted

Which probably applies to Trumpo

PunkRockSportsFan@fanaticus.social on 06 May 18:00 collapse

Gross. Now I’m thinking about his diapers.

Moist AND restricted.

Dudes got shit in his pants.

Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world on 06 May 19:35 collapse

Well…it might not be in his pants yet. It’s perfectly well established that he’s full of shit.

When he puts on pants they are full of shit by definition.

Terrorism is scaring/harming people to manipulate government.

Tesla is neither government nor their property damage is scaring people.

More trumped-up charges.

(It is hilariously fitting Trump the man and Trump the word fit so gand-in-hand)

northendtrooper@lemmy.ca on 06 May 18:12 next collapse

Arson, its just arson.

entwine413@lemm.ee on 06 May 18:13 next collapse

If you want to abstract it enough, hurting Tesla hurts musk, who unfortunately is the government.

roofuskit@lemmy.world on 06 May 18:18 collapse

Not legally he’s not.

entwine413@lemm.ee on 06 May 21:30 next collapse

That only matters if it’s enforced.

comfy@lemmy.ml on 06 May 23:48 collapse

I don’t see how that’s relevant.

shalafi@lemmy.world on 06 May 18:56 next collapse

So are we suddenly pretending Musk isn’t a de facto government leader who might be manipulated by this? (Terrible wording, but y’all get my gist. I’m going hiking now.)

Maeve@kbin.earth on 06 May 20:45 collapse

I mean, it depends on who in the admin you ask.

pupbiru@aussie.zone on 07 May 08:00 collapse

this is meant to be read without the emotional loading to the words that we’ve been conditioned with: ie X is implicitly bad… these are just words, whose meaning has more depth than what they actually define

terrorism is

the use of violence against non-combatants to achieve political or ideological aims

violence is

an act of physical force that causes or is intended to cause harm

arson is violence

and this particular act of violence is intended to achieve political or ideological aims (musk is a political figure albeit not an official government employee, and this is in response to his public political acts)

now, i’d argue it’s not “against non-combatants”, but perhaps it is? is destruction of a persons property constitute violence against them? it’s at least psychological - trying to scare/influence for sure

let’s not kid ourselves though: it is what it is… it’s just ridiculous that this is what they pursue while pardoning jan 6 offenders… the issue isn’t that they’re labelling this domestic terrorism. the issue is that it’s singled out because fElon asked daddy dictator

MrVilliam@lemm.ee on 06 May 18:45 next collapse

Mask off moment. Their purpose is to protect capital. The only crimes that cops prevent are through deterrence because they are crime punishers, not crime preventers.

Maeve@kbin.earth on 06 May 20:44 next collapse

Just wondering when it was ever mask on?

LilB0kChoy@lemm.ee on 06 May 20:58 collapse

they are crime punishers, not crime preventers.

This isn’t unique to the US. It is called law enforcement so even if it wasn’t a completely broken and horseshit system crime prevention would not be part of their purview.

You prevent/reduce crime by addressing the underlying societal issues that are contributing to it.

NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip on 06 May 18:29 next collapse

Aww, the dot world news mod team is gonna be so happy to know that the FBI is protecting their precious teslas.

Which mostly speaks to why this is “a good idea”. People vandalizing swasticars was effective. It was a comparatively low effort action that people could do on their way to work or while out drinking with the gang. And it did an amazing job of putting the fear of labor in all the tech workers who “will just ride out the next 4 years”. They couldn’t just say “I am one of the good ones” anymore.

So… get rid of that and we go back to “This is horrible and I really do care about whatever issue we think matters this week. But if you worked just a bit harder you would be able to afford groceries so…” that we see EVERYWHERE (even on this site).

They call regular people “terrorists” for daring to stand up to fascism in any small way.

They start a manhunt for the murder of the CEO of a health insurance company while ignoring the murders of countless regular people every day.

Private property is protected, while it’s been made illegal to be homeless.

What he gets really irritated about is the fact that you have to file a flight plan and that flight plan has to be public, because obviously otherwise it wouldn’t work.

Boycott is a perfectly fine, non-violent form of protest, what’s your problem?

vordalack@lemm.ee on 07 May 07:41 collapse

It’s not boycotting when Tesla owners are being harasses, assaulted, having their vehicles damaged, and receiving death threats over the car they drive.

Vikthor@lemmy.world on 07 May 20:00 collapse

I was obviously referring to the second part of your post, are you dense?

itslilith@lemmy.blahaj.zone on 07 May 07:46 next collapse

Both are good and effective

Saleh@feddit.org on 07 May 08:02 next collapse

Boycotting Israeli products is mandated by international law. Anything that helps Israel maintain the illegal occupation of the Westbank, Gaza and East Jerusalem is complicity and illegal. Israel launders products that are made in occupied territory and resources stolen in occupied territory as “made in Israel”. But even if product would have been made purely in the 1967 Israeli borders, the companies still pay taxes that are used to finance the army that is doing the occupation.

If you think that upholding international law is crazy or childish i recommend you to look at the period from 1933 to 1945 that is often given as the reason why there was an effort to create international law.
