People who use firefox, how do you see what website you visit on a specific date? (say on September 12) for me it just shows like this

Maybe sort by “date” instead of date & site?

eager_eagle@lemmy.world on 04 Oct 2024 20:29 collapse

That just groups them all by month, sorted alphabetically. It should me called “by month”, not “by date”.

This is the weirdest fucking thing about Firefox. How is its history menu so goddamn horrible and why hasn’t it been fixed.

BananaTrifleViolin@lemmy.world on 04 Oct 2024 22:33 collapse

There’s a detailed history window? The sidebar isn’t it; just a quick overview. Control+Shift+H for the full history screen. It’s also in the menus under history, at the bottom. Like the full bookmark window is control+shift+B and linked at the bottom of the bookmarks menu.

forked_bytes@lemm.ee on 04 Oct 2024 20:20 next collapse

There’s a more detailed view if you go to History > Manage history, or press Ctrl+Shift+H

eager_eagle@lemmy.world on 04 Oct 2024 20:35 collapse

complementing this, in case the last visited column is not visible

The problem is you have to know the approximate timeframe of your last visit - eg. If it was in the past week it may not be searchable in other categories such as *more than 3 months ago".

… likewise, if you can still find it by going to a currently open tab and hitting"back" enough times, it may not have been addded to history yet.

Firefox’s history is a little idiosyncratic. One of the less polished parts of the browser.

One of the less polished parts of the browser.

Probably because most people using Firefox disable browsing history.

Aethr@lemmy.world on 04 Oct 2024 23:17 next collapse

What makes you say that?

eager_eagle@lemmy.world on 05 Oct 2024 00:12 next collapse

you can assume most people use the defaults

why would most people bother to disable the history when most don’t even use ad blockers?

cmnybo@discuss.tchncs.de on 05 Oct 2024 01:30 collapse

I would imagine most people who aren’t using chrome are doing so for privacy reasons.

theherk@lemmy.world on 05 Oct 2024 07:17 collapse

Unless one shares a computer user with somebody, the privacy concerns of local history are nothing compared to connected features. There are many reasons people might use a browser other than chrome. Everybody disabling history is a strange assumption.

Fizz@lemmy.nz on 08 Oct 2024 00:13 collapse

I don’t think many people disable browsing history. Most people don’t even open the settings they just use whatever is default.

eager_eagle@lemmy.world on 04 Oct 2024 20:28 next collapse

I don’t

Open the actual history window.

LodeMike@lemmy.today on 04 Oct 2024 21:49 collapse

HOW i would love to not use this watered down nonfunctional piece of shit

BananaTrifleViolin@lemmy.world on 04 Oct 2024 22:37 collapse

Control+Shift+H or you can find the link to it in the history menu in the main Firefox menu. Or at the bottom of the history menu from the history button if you add it to your toolbar. Or in the Library section if you use that menu/button.

The sidebar is a cut down overview.

Same for bookmarks, the full bookmark screen has more depth and features than the sidebar.

Thank ye

Also worth mentioning: you might still need to add the “most recent visit” column under the View menu. And if you dare to actually load any of those pages, they’ll move all the way to the top, and will not remain in their original location. It’s really annoying.

muntedcrocodile@lemm.ee on 05 Oct 2024 01:26 collapse

U can write sql against the search history db i believe

skeezix@lemmy.world on 05 Oct 2024 06:09 next collapse

I told that to my grandma.
