Florida man W

The monthly payment on my 25-year, 7% loan for my solar installation is less than the average power bill. My solar system generates more than I need. Assuming rates never go down, I’m in good shape.

Is it a roof or land install? If it’s roof curious about the installs effect on the roof and getting work done? Issues or cost increases on getting roof work are what’s really holding my decision.

HybridSarcasm@lemmy.world on 11 Sep 2023 00:53 collapse

No additional stress to the roof. One does have to remove then reinstall if getting the roof done. The cost is approx. $100/panel. With 42 panels, that’s an extra $4200 for a roof job. But, that’s the only real consideration.

What company did you go with?

HybridSarcasm@lemmy.world on 11 Sep 2023 23:36 collapse

Optimus Energy in Mt. Dora. Went with them because they had the best overall ‘bang for the buck’ AND their core values are green energy. They aren’t electricians or roofers trying to jump on the solar train.

100 years left until Florida goes underwater

surewhynotlem@lemmy.world on 11 Sep 2023 00:58 next collapse

This is a waste. What’s the point of generating electricity underwater?

Astroturfed@lemmy.world on 11 Sep 2023 05:40 collapse

There’s no way they survive long enough to make it underwater on most homes. Have you seen how often hurricanes come through. Entire roofs get ripped off constantly. Large flat object on top of roof? That’s not going to stick around long.

Climate change isn’t real! Guys, the insurance companies won’t insure anyone and are leaving the state because of increasinf severe weather events. We have to start a socialized insurance company to try and keep people insured. Our voters are too stupid to realize that this makes our entire ethos a joke right?

Cqrd@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 12 Sep 2023 10:09 collapse

The insurance companies are leaving because of the Florida governments requirement that they pay to fully replace a roof whenever it’s 25% damaged, neighborhoods are literally crawling with roof repair crews trying to convince people to get their roofs replaced on their insurer’s dime. It’s incredibly unsustainable and this is the result. Also the rampant flooding from global warming.

Super surprising. Isn’t solar “woke” or some shit?

Vorticity@lemmy.world on 11 Sep 2023 06:14 next collapse

Don’t tell DeSantis. He’ll put a stop to this real quick if he finds out.

HybridSarcasm@lemmy.world on 11 Sep 2023 23:37 collapse

On the contrary, he shot down the legislation that would end net metering, which is critical for me to be productive with the excess power I generate.

TBH with how Florida uncapped power bills allowing power companies a free infinite money hack, solar will pay itself off pretty quickly if you compare to what you’d otherwise be paying
