It’s meta-search. A decent idea, but still relies on other search engines. A bit misleading. UI is fucking * mint * tho.

Aatube@kbin.melroy.org on 03 May 00:07 collapse

To be fair, it was introduced as meta-search in the Waterfox changelog where it was publicized.

This seems great!

Is Waterfox just a different version of Firefox?

NeedyPlatter@lemmy.ca on 03 May 01:11 collapse

Essentially. Waterfox is a Firefox “fork” (a reimagined version of Firefox using its original source code) Unlike Firefox, Waterfox is more privacy focused with no telementary and a built in tracker blocker.

Aatube@kbin.melroy.org on 03 May 01:14 next collapse

I use it for the default interface customizations and tree-style sidebar. I personally don't care that much about the very basic level of Firefox's telemetry, but yes, Waterfox bundles the Betterfox config to shut down trackers plus overall just make itself faster.

Good to know. Thank you.

Bonus@lemm.ee on 03 May 04:42 collapse

Ah, fork was the term I was looking for. Thanks.

Now we just need Earthfox and Airfox, so we can have our own Avatarfox.

these jokes get me every time. last time someone said something like "earthfox, airfox, lived together in harmony..."

Supports vanilla ff add-ons?

Aatube@kbin.melroy.org on 03 May 17:01 collapse

the search engine, a website?

01189998819991197253@infosec.pub on 03 May 17:03 collapse

Comments said a ff fork. Is this not a ff fork with a built-in metasearch?

Edit: allow me to clarify. The engine in the link is just the search engine; I get that. I meant waterfox. Is that not a fork? And if it is, does it support the vanilla add-ons? It’s been a day and I’m exhausted, and am not explaining properly I think sorry

Aatube@kbin.melroy.org on 03 May 17:05 collapse

This Private Search is just a standalone website (and not part of the browser). And yes, Waterfox the browser does support WebExtensions, as it includes Firefox Quantum features.

Ok cool. Thanks. Again, sorry for my poorly worded questions

Aatube@kbin.melroy.org on 03 May 17:07 collapse

lol no problem
