Real progress for PCVR.

credo@lemmy.world on 20 Mar 22:50 next collapse

Another look: m.youtube.com/watch?v=gbFU6KoEASU

This might be what gets me to finally purchase VR

zamithal@programming.dev on 20 Mar 22:55 next collapse

Does it work with glasses?

koncertejo@lemmy.ml on 20 Mar 22:58 next collapse

I think you can order prescription lenses with it. Maybe with the halo strap it might accommodate glasses nicely.

Dremor@lemmy.world on 21 Mar 17:56 collapse

Prescription lenses are available at checkout, yes.

Blaster_M@lemmy.world on 21 Mar 01:45 collapse

You order corrective lens inserts for it

KoalaUnknown@lemmy.world on 20 Mar 23:28 next collapse

$1019

  • +$200 for eyetracking
  • +$50 for orange
  • +$120 for cushion
  • +$129 for speaker
  • +$447 for steam VR base station x3
  • +$89 for eye correction inserts

$2054

This reminds me of another company that recently entered the VR space. 🤔

villainy@lemmy.world on 21 Mar 00:04 next collapse

Eh. Bigscreen isn’t new to this. I think they understand how niche they are.

paraphrand@lemmy.world on 21 Mar 01:47 collapse

Yup, they are targeting people deep into the PCVR ecosystem. Index owners are their ideal customers. And now, people who previously purchased an Index and a Beyond, too.

Dindonmasker@sh.itjust.works on 21 Mar 00:12 next collapse

That’s true! The moohan might not be that expensive for what it is if it ends up being around 2k then! I feel better about waiting for that one. :)

koncertejo@lemmy.ml on 21 Mar 03:18 next collapse

Definitely does a lot more than the Vision Pro does though, waaay more useful.

Euphoma@lemmy.ml on 21 Mar 17:19 collapse

Yeah thats pretty much the beyond 1 also. I wasn’t expecting anything different in pricing. Also you only really need 2 base stations

darkknight@discuss.online on 21 Mar 03:30 next collapse

If this could be used standalone, I’d be interested. Hell, I might be interested anyways since we have no idea if the valve 2 is coming out anytime.

G0ldenSp00n@lemmy.jacaranda.club on 22 Mar 05:45 collapse

If you are interested in Valve you might want to wait, rumor is we get at least an announcement very soon. I say this as someone that pre-order a Bigscreen Beyond 2 though, lol.

darkknight@discuss.online on 22 Mar 16:35 collapse

Hasn’t this been a rumor for like a year?

magiccupcake@lemmy.world on 21 Mar 05:14 next collapse

Why is the resolution limited at 90hz?

There should be plenty of bandwidth to run 2x2560x2560 at 90hz. That should only be ~28.3gbps, which is less than dp 1.4 max of 32.

And it’s less bandwidth than a 4k monitor at 240hz, though that requires DSC.

.

KoalaUnknown@lemmy.world on 21 Mar 18:44 collapse

It’s actually recommended to run it at 75hz, it’s a limitation of the screen, not the cable.

Dremor@lemmy.world on 21 Mar 17:55 next collapse

I’d be interested once it is compatible with Linux.

G0ldenSp00n@lemmy.jacaranda.club on 22 Mar 05:47 collapse

The first one worked with some kernel patches, there is a Discord server (Linux Adventures in VR) with lots of information about getting various headsets running in Linux.

yonder@sh.itjust.works on 22 Mar 16:54 collapse

lvra.gitlab.io is a great source of info for vr on linux. The discord server you mentioned is also bridged to Matrix for those who don’t want to use discord.

Anarki_@lemmy.blahaj.zone on 22 Mar 14:22 collapse

Do I still need to buy an iPhone to get it?

BackgrndNoize@lemmy.world on 22 Mar 14:58 collapse

No they sell a generic facial unit that can work with almost anyone’s face now and the IPD of the lenses is configurable, so you don’t need a 3D scan of your face
