It’s still up, in some places.

Kyrgizion@lemmy.world on 12 Sep 09:40 next collapse

I found it on wikipedia of all places

technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 12 Sep 15:05 collapse

Why not? It seems like an appropriate place.

antonim@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 12 Sep 15:49 collapse

They had a whole edit war about whether it should be included and locked the article.

FauxLiving@lemmy.world on 12 Sep 17:24 collapse

What was the resolution?

antonim@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 12 Sep 18:30 collapse

Looks like they’ve decided against inclusion. It’s also unlikely the video meets “fair use” standards so they’d have to delete it anyway…

ZiemekZ@lemmy.world on 12 Sep 19:58 collapse

I couldn’t find the discussion on both talk pages (for personal article and the killing article)

antonim@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 13 Sep 04:37 collapse

It’s been moved to the archive but is linked on top of the talk page:

en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=&oldid=1310806… / en.wikipedia.org/wiki/…/Archive_2#Including_the_v…

interdimensionalmeme@lemmy.ml on 12 Sep 21:09 collapse

Soon only the dark web will have it.
I mean, I don’t like seeing that shit,
but I also don’t like living in make-belief land
where the horrors of life are kept hidden
by our well-meaning overlord

DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works on 12 Sep 09:56 next collapse

I hate when they delete stuff, like… do you want conspiracy theories to spread? Because that’s how conspiracy theories spread.

zrst@lemmy.cif.su on 12 Sep 10:03 next collapse

It’s all about controlling how people see the world.

If we’re only exposed to “disney, safe for china” media, then that’s all people will think the world consists of.

They (people richer than us) don’t want us seeing the reality of guns, only their carefully curated fantasies.

Glitchvid@lemmy.world on 12 Sep 10:50 next collapse

I agree with this viscerally.

A lot of people are expressing sympathy for the people in the Kirk crowd, but honestly I think it might be a good thing for them — to see first hand what Kirk and the Republican rhetoric is actually advocating for. Maybe it’ll snap them out of the fantasies they have of culling “undesirables”.

Reverendender@sh.itjust.works on 12 Sep 11:40 collapse

If they are mentally capable of making the connection between the things he advocated for, and those things happening directly to him.

frunch@lemmy.world on 12 Sep 16:15 collapse

My guess: they’ll use this as their latest example of the “violent left” without evidence, as is tradition

technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 12 Sep 15:06 collapse

Yeah this is widely applied. From ag-gag laws that hide the brutality of animal torture/murder to the killing of journalists in palestine. ETC.

People in the imperial core are constantly shielded from the reality of their “culture”.

cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone on 12 Sep 11:44 next collapse

the problem is that due to the algorithmic nature of social media it ends up getting pushed to people who don't want to see it.

LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 12 Sep 10:14 next collapse

Links? I missed the whole thing

Reverendender@sh.itjust.works on 12 Sep 11:40 next collapse

It’s very gruesome. I was not prepared.

peoplebeproblems@midwest.social on 12 Sep 11:46 next collapse

Which is odd you know? I thought “meh I’ve seen some sick shit” but nope. One minute he’s a racist accelerationist bigot and the next moment he still is but his brain is clearly whack and blood is rushing down his neck.

Movies and videogames don’t come remotely close to representing it accurately

Reverendender@sh.itjust.works on 12 Sep 11:56 collapse

I’ve even see other videos of people getting killed before, and they were not this bad. Not often; I’m not someone who generally seeks that stuff out. Maybe it’s because of the bright lighting, high clarity, and comparatively high resolution of this one, combined with a gunshot wound that had very gory and visible results.

flop_leash_973@lemmy.world on 12 Sep 12:22 next collapse

I think what gets people about this one is the large amount of blood that comes from severing a major artery like that and it funneling out through such a focused point followed by how quickly he reacts, goes into shock, then goes limp.

Most gore people get to see, even the real stuff, is much more initially destructive. So the blood goes everywhere all at once and there is very little time or ability to see the immediate reaction of the injured person.

For me, most of the worst stuff I’ve seen that is not tv/movie make believe that was the most unsettling had very little gore in the traditional sense. It was the reaction of the person that got injured that made it unsettling and the slow realization they make of what happened and is currently happening. There is a much more calm yet panicked tone to it than someone getting ran over by a tank or their head cut off by a terrorist.

antonim@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 12 Sep 15:47 collapse

Kirk’s killer seems to have used some large calibre weapon which probably made it look so particularly brutal and bloody.

FauxLiving@lemmy.world on 12 Sep 17:23 collapse

It was a .30-06, a 7.62mm round, similar to an AK-47 (ARs uses5.56mm). They make big exit wounds.

Given how close the round hit to his brain and the fact that it hit a major artery, he likely died due to the hydrostatic shock from the impact.

He likely didn’t even know he was hit, he was seizing immediately and all of his body motion after the impact was involuntary.

phoenixz@lemmy.ca on 12 Sep 21:12 collapse

For me it’s mostly how the body reacts to the bullet, the hands going up a little Ina reflex, but you can see he’s already lost control of his body. That part is always what gets me

Reverendender@sh.itjust.works on 12 Sep 21:14 collapse

Yeah that was unexpected and really fucked me up mentally.

technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 12 Sep 15:03 next collapse

Meh. Not that bad. Glad to see dude go.

Zios are murdering kds and their whole families every day. That’s something that’s actually gruesome.

jjlinux@lemmy.zip on 12 Sep 15:43 collapse

So you believe that people should get murdered for expressing their opinions, got it.

FauxLiving@lemmy.world on 12 Sep 17:13 next collapse

You can disagree with political violence and also not be upset that he’s dead.

Conflating the two is disingenuous

Lumisal@lemmy.world on 12 Sep 22:51 next collapse

Kirk also helped organized and bussed people to the Capitol. It’s not just opinions.

But also, yes, if your opinion is certain people should cease to exist simply because they’re not white, I will think that person themselves should cease to exist in turn.

LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 14 Sep 10:38 collapse

Fucker got what he deserved, I watch it over and over and I feel absolutely nothing for him, no empathy, no connection, no “we’re all made of the same stuff” thing, he is a threat, neutralized.

I would’ve in fact - been very pleasantly surprised if a leftist did this because it meant someone out there with a head on their shoulders getting off their ass to fight for what’s right, and what’s right is to subdue the threat of the political right, if the means of peaceful discussion, debate and correcting misinformation have failed us, then by any remaining means is fine by me.

His political thought is that me and mine should be eradicated - so forgive my thought that he should be.

As it stands, I feel that this infighting thinning out their ranks is the most uplifting news these days.

shalafi@lemmy.world on 12 Sep 17:30 collapse

He seems an adept shooter. I’d bet he was aiming for center mass like a good little sniper. But one can hardly ask the local range if he can practice from their sloping roof out to 250 yards.

Where epstein files ?

Melvin_Ferd@lemmy.world on 12 Sep 13:30 collapse

Charlie has so many videos saying “release the Epstein files” that I’m suprise Lefty’s aren’t capitalizing on them. Plus so many others where he says things that can be clipped. Like think of the collecting rrrreeeeeeeeeee from these fucks if Lefty’s were posting pro gun clips of him under all their fake empathy posts

technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com on 12 Sep 15:00 next collapse

Leftists might try to capitalize on Epstein.

But liberals aren’t leftists. The liberal establishment won’t promote the Epstein story because liberals are also deeply implicated.

Similarly liberals collaborate with fascists. They’re not going to be trolling them. They’re going to be memorializing kirk and calling for “civility” or whatever the fuck. NPR did like a full day of Kirk memorialization.

So yes, libs are less than worthless. But that has nothing to do with leftism.

Melvin_Ferd@lemmy.world on 12 Sep 15:50 collapse

I just want to say you’re a problem. I view you the same way I view Charlie Kirk

BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world on 12 Sep 15:29 next collapse

I am seeing a huge amount of that on Lemmy and Mastodon.

Melvin_Ferd@lemmy.world on 12 Sep 15:49 collapse

Right, so the end result is what?

We’re watching the world slip further and further into the opinion that Charlie Kirk was a good man. There’s no resistance to anything they say anymore because we’re all on Lemmy and mastodon where nobody but us are.

BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world on 12 Sep 16:05 next collapse

No matter what Kirk is going to be saintwashed by the right. Don’t forget that they will always build their preferred reality around themselves. I get your frustration but it’s important to remember that nothing you say will ever change a rightists mind. God itself could appear in the sky and tell off every evil, self-centered, delusional rightist to their face and they would still find a way to ignore it. Speech doesn’t work on rightists. Logic doesn’t work on rightists. Hard evidence doesn’t work on rightists.

This is why all the leftists on Lemmy are calling for impactful forms of protest. Until we get in the streets and shut everything down and impact their lives and livelihoods and stock prices nobody is going to negotiate. Power is all they recognize, and they are going to do everything they can to make sure we don’t have any.

zarkanian@sh.itjust.works on 12 Sep 22:44 collapse

You think that all of the leftists are on Lemmy and Mastodon? I wish.

Melvin_Ferd@lemmy.world on 13 Sep 06:50 collapse

No I think most left all social spaces but a few that left ended up here.

Because censorship of topical newsworthy events is antithetical to freedom. Sure first the censorship will start with “gruesome” but it won’t stop there, let people opt out, but it shouldn’t be scrubbed from existence.
