No they wonāt - not for the inventory thatās already in-country. Apple sells things as DDP - Delivered Duty Paid. Look up what that means. Itās pretty clear.

Yeah but how long will that inventory last? A couple of weeks maybe? Certainly not for any of the new products they have in their schedule for the year, those will have to be a lot more expensive to keep their margins somewhat stable.

It doesnāt, nor should it prevent them, if Iām being blunt. A 100%+ tariff on the country where they produce their shit is tantamount to telling them as a company that theyāre simply not allowed to make any profit anymore whatsoever, within the United States. And it would basically force them to operate as a de facto charity if they didnāt raise their prices in the US as a result. Which - for those in the back - is precisely the fucking point everyone is making about tarrifs and how stupid they are. This is all just a money grab by orangeboi.
This isnāt me being an Apple Stan; this is just simple economics. Itās applicable to ANY company thatās producing stuff in China.
Also, if orangeboi tries to do some sort of executive order of āTim Apple isnāt allowed to raise his prices in the USā, thatās a nakedly apparent shakedown.
I see your point but I have hard time giving any fucks about shit mega corpo getting hurt after Tim apple went and sucked trump off on TV

I get that - again, not trying to shill for Apple here. My point is that it sets an incredibly dangerous and overt precedent if it ends up panning out like that.

Apple has teased with making the iPhone-as-a-service, meaning you lease it instead of owning it. The tariffs might give it the pretext it needed to go ahead with the idea, because the alternative would be sacrificing some of its abundant profit margins.

Itās also an option with some of the Canadian companies so I have to make sure the two year term is to-own whenever I get a new phone.

I really like iPhones (more so iOS), especially with sideloading now.
But if leasing becomes norm and we canāt purchase it or get it through subscription of service (2 years with Vodafone and then the phone is yours kind of thing). Iāll just purchase an older Samsung. Then Iāll take the loss and struggle for a few months with the interface and all that.
The only good thing about most Android phones is that you can install a different version of Android devoid of all things Google and get an interface that isnāt Samsung. Thatās my plan when this subscription crap comes around or the phones are too expensive that I canāt afford them anymore. Iām too tied into Appleās ecosystem with mail, iCloud, and Music.
Also, buy some other brand thatās cheaper because Samsung makes garbage and donāt support their hardware unless theyāre flagship. Admittedly, itās been almost a decade since Iāve had anything but an iPhone, but I had a couple Samsung Android phones were an update broke the phone and Samsung wouldnāt release a fix because it was an update from Google. One in particular was a Samsung Moment on Sprint where it would enter into airplane mode silently and still look like it was connected to services until you went to use said services. They refused to provide an update to resolve the issue.
Samsung has had 7 (5 of updates and 2 security support) years support por flagships and 5 years (4 updates, 1 security) for the A series for over 5 years now. Theyāve had their hiccups with updates, but so have all phone manufacturers.
Thatās good to hear, because back then that wasnāt the case. I know no matter what model iPhone I get, if itās new then support is the same for every model from that year.

I, similarly, ordered a shitload of ramen noodles from sayweee.com/en before the tariffs kicked in. They havenāt arrived yet but when they do, itās going to be a box so big, my neighbors are going to assume I got new furniture.

Tariffs apply when they arrive at port, not when you order. Yours might not ever show up because if they donāt pay the tariffs by EOD after arriving at port they get destroyed.

I think Weee probably already imported the Ramen and itās in a warehouse, not being made to order. But itās ok. I can probably afford the tax on ramen noodles. Iām partial to the spicy kimchi ones anyway so theyāre probably South Korean. I also love the cheapest, finest shrimp flavored packets that are like $1 each. (I ate them as a kid so theyāre a comfort food.) Those might even be made in America.
Also, Master P has a gumbo-flavored Ramen product and thereās always yaka mein. I live in New Orleans and those could be made here for all I know. (Yaka mein is definitely made here. Itās basically ramen noodles but with Creole New Orleans broth and seasoning. The legend is that Chinese laborers building the railroads introduced the concept of ramen to black laborers in New Orleans and a new, cheap dish was born. It was eventually marketed as a hangover cure and called āOld Soberā but itās called yaka mein now.)

How does DDP prevent apple from upping MSRP?
