Let me guess, “corporate greed”?

Xanxia@lemmy.zip on 26 Jun 10:13 next collapse

More likely small and medium business greed like we saw it with plastic in China.

FrostyPolicy@suppo.fi on 26 Jun 14:17 next collapse

That’s usually the answer to these kind of questions.

Nah, my old mobile phone is in a drawer in my basement.

oji@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 09:57 next collapse

Mine too, all six of them. Just in case.

Bort@sh.itjust.works on 26 Jun 10:25 collapse

Checking in, I got at least six lying around this house. You never know.

FrostyPolicy@suppo.fi on 26 Jun 14:16 next collapse

Mine too.

The old batteries can pose a minor fire risk. Haven’t worried about that myself tbh

agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works on 26 Jun 22:26 collapse

They rest in the boxes they came in.

“Why phone companies old mobile phones may be polluting Thailand“

I think that may be a better headline

painteddoggie@lemmy.world on 27 Jun 14:07 collapse

Thank you. Everyone either has their old phones in a box under their bed or they traded them in to a COMPANY who apparently proceeded dump them into thialand.

Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca on 26 Jun 22:13 next collapse

Nope, I’ve still got every phone I’ve ever had except for one that I gave away to someone who lost theirs.

Kolanaki@pawb.social on 26 Jun 22:29 next collapse

looks at the box with all his old phones in it

“Y’all better not be polluting Thailand!”

ABC123itsEASY@lemmy.world on 27 Jun 02:18 next collapse

I still have all of mine as well, including my first: a samsung sph-n200.

Kolanaki@pawb.social on 27 Jun 02:20 collapse

I haven’t had very many, since I take care of my stuff really well and try to get something that will last a long while.

First was a Tmo Sidekick. And I hella wish someone would make a smartphone version of it, with the flip up screen to cover a real keyboard, and a physical scroll wheel. 🤤

ITGuyLevi@programming.dev on 27 Jun 12:20 collapse

Yep, I have a box with all my cell phones (as well as my wife’s phones) going back to 2005 when I was able to get my first one. Man I miss my Razor v3 and the OG Motorola Droid, at least I can still look at them.

terminhell@lemmy.world on 26 Jun 23:57 next collapse

Would be great if they were easily and cheaply repaired. Nor made “obsolete” in two years via arbitrary updates.

GreenKnight23@lemmy.world on 27 Jun 22:43 next collapse

All my old phones are polluting a box in my basement. They will be inherited to my kids when I die.

card797@champserver.net on 28 Jun 16:27 collapse

Yeah. My old phones are in my house somewhere.
