My mind immediately went to the band Phish… I was all excited to find a new corner of the internet about them! :) Never mind :)

Me too. I was trying to find a connection between top and a phish song, or Vermont or something.

The Chinese company in charge of handing out domain names ending in “.top” has been given until mid-August 2024 to show that it has put in place systems for managing phishing reports and suspending abusive domains, or else forfeit its license to sell domains.

Seems like the problem is China, not really. top domains.

SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de on 24 Jul 2024 04:22 collapse

the problem is the registrar, not the country

TexMexBazooka@lemm.ee on 25 Jul 2024 12:35 next collapse

Chinese companies work according to mandates from the party a lot of the time, there’s less separation than in the US

tb_@lemmy.world on 26 Jul 2024 13:38 collapse

In the US it tends to be the other way around 🥁

TexMexBazooka@lemm.ee on 26 Jul 2024 14:00 collapse

Unironically yes

China has problems with organized crime, especially as it relates to phishing.

I feel bad for lemmy.top because those pages are tarnishing that domain.
