I believe the modern nomenclature is “peaceful tourists.”

CCP did the same for Tibet. Just to send more Xi’s thugs to rape and pillage the country.

Washington announces it now has the capacity for low speed passenger trains to get stuck behind grain freight and go even slower so it takes take 29h to get to Chicago.

Can confirm.

That’s cool. It also has a roughly 0% possibility of actually being done, regardless of whether or not the technology is available.

PlexSheep@feddit.de on 15 Sep 2023 17:28 collapse

Just needs a Chinese unification. Yeah probably unlikely.

Mainland China is about 100 miles away. Thats a damn long distance. Strictly from an engineering perspective, that would be incredibly impressive feat if they did it.

Did a quick search and it looks like the longest rail bridges now hit a max of roughly 1/4 what this Taiwan-to-China bridge would need to be.

They said they can do it. Never said how long it’ll stand after they do it.

Hazdaz@lemmy.world on 15 Sep 2023 22:51 collapse

True. But this would not be a cheap project if they legitimately attempted it, so they probably would want to keep the Chinesium quality to a minimum so it doesn’t fall apart after it’s first use.

yeather@lemmy.ca on 17 Sep 2023 20:38 collapse

Chinesium lol, even so, even if they get the best quality everything and actually make it structurally sound. It’s the Chinese, they’ll fuck it up somehow and blame it on western sabotage.
